Buffalo and Ottawa aren't trading young controlled talent for aging out players.

Fair point, I feel the Ottawa one could get done though I can understand why Buffalo probably isn’t trading Krebs in a Petry deal now that I think about it

With the development of Jackson LaCombe, Pavel Mintyukov and Olen Zellweger, and the not-insignificant chance that Ryan Johnson signs with Anaheim, I don't think that the Ducks will be interested in P-O Joseph.

I like how you acknowledged the blue line needs fixing. I feel like that's overlooked a lot, which I understand given how many issues there are. But I'd say it was maybe our biggest issue last season. I dont know if this roster is a true cup contender, but you kept our 1sts, got us some youth, so overall I like this.

1. Jeff Carter is not waiving his NMC

2. Ottawa is not trading JBD for Carter

3. Try again

Fair point, thought I’d send him to Anaheim here though considering they were the worst D in the NHL this year and a trade like this gives them some help immediately rather then waiting on development of prospects.

Appreciate it, I agree. If this team wants to even sniff the playoffs if that’s what they go for then there needs to be some changes at the defense. Hextall attempted it and failed miserably to the point where it needs desperate help now to whoever takes over. Gotta think we should at least attempt to move Petry, replace an aging Dumo, and figure out the Smith/Joseph situation and who gets in the roster or if they both do? We had a logjam at the D position last off-season and Hextall just added to it

Ottawa is a playoff team on the rise so I feel Carter may waive his NMC there, and you’re also getting him with $1m retained, and acquiring a 3rd rounder in the process with the asking price of a developing prospect

Neither Ottawa nor Carter are interested.

Agree on all of this. What are your thoughts on POJ vs. Smith? Personally I think Smith has a higher ceiling. POJ was very solid start of season but seems like he got worn out by the end. I dont think he's bad at all but I question whether his size will hurt him. I would have Smith play in the lineup full time and consider trading POJ for a young forward maybe for the 4th line.

I like POJ’s game but I don’t think he has the potential Smith has and I don’t think he’s gonna consistently be playing how he is now. I’d expect at some point the offensive side will start to drop down a little as you mentioned with his size and limited mobility.

I would maybe look at his market and do exactly what you said, which is what I did in this ACGM; trade him for a **YOUNG** depth piece with potential, a pick in this case doesn’t do anything for us now which is why you go with the bottom 6er option.
