Cup Contenders

Created by: JellyHockeyPens
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2023
Published: Apr. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Third time trying to make a Pens roster for next season (The title is clickbait don't kill me). With these moves, the Pens make their bottom 6 forwards much faster with added scoring touch and also give Jarry a solid goalie who can take on more of a workload successfully than DeSmith. Hoping that with an extra year of maturity and working out, POJ and Ty Smith can become regular solid LDs for the Pens, and if not an in-season move may have to take place. Comment how you think this team would do, how the contracts look, and whether or not these trades would go through. Thanks

Avs decline...cant see why they would willingly get worse for a 6th round pick.

How do they get worse? Do me a favor and look at Colorado's current forward group next year with only 19 mil in cap space. In my opinion, they could use a cheap depth forward and DeSmith could easily replace Francouz at that price.

because 1.2 million for the 10 points that blackwell put up it should be easy to find someone on league min to do that.

At 800k after retaining. 10 points in 50 games on the basically ahl blackhawks isn’t horrible and avs have been known to be able to get players like that to produce. I’m completely open to other ideas to get Francouz but I don’t think it’s unrealistic considering how much work Colorado is going to have to do to build a forward group with their offseason situation.

As a Hawks fan I'm surprised he scored 10 pts. The guy was invisible most nights. I agree you should pass.

This is far off from cup contenders. This is a wild card team at best.

COL isn’t doing that, Blackwell is a run of the mill guy that can be signed for close to league minimum, perfect example is Matt Nieto whom COL already has.

I'd be fine going into the season with this team. I think it's a bit of an overpayment on Compher and would probably rather throw that money at ROR - but that's nitpicking.

Hawks decline. 2 years and $11m in actual salary costs at least two 2nd's to dump. Especially if Pens want something back as well.

I’m not sure Chicago is too worried about taking on 11 mil over 2 years. It’s not like they’re going to be building a team up to the cap limit and trying to make playoffs. They’re just gonna have at least 1 maybe 2 more years of tanking anyways so I don’t understand what the big deal of having granlund is.

You're correct. Chicago isn't concerned at all taking on Granlund's deal. But they have proven that they'll only take on bad contracts if they are fairly compensated for it. They got a 2nd and a 4th for taking on one year of Zaitsev at a $4.5m cap hit. Why would they accept the same picks for 2 years of Granlund at a $5m cap hit? Easy, they wouldn't. Hawks have no issue taking Granlund as long as Pens pony up fair compensation to do it.
