The funny thing about Sammy

In regular season Monster at home but in the playoffs he was a Road Warrior

He was 1-2 at home

3-0 on the road

There's another one but man I kind of feel bad for it

It involves Tampa spending a draft class of picks on someone only to HS him the final 2 games

Samsonov - 4 years, 4.9 mil AAV
OReilly - 2 years, 5.25 mil AAV
Matthews - 8 years, 14.5 mil AAV
Acciari - Walks (Holmberg / McMann szn)
Nylander - Wait

I think Nylander has to be traded. Getting rid of people with $2M AAV and replacing them with minor leaguers for $1M will not free up enough money to sign the other more important pieces.
Nylanders value will only go down through the season, as well as having difficulties finding willing trade partners within the season who have Cap Space to take him on.
Are you willing to let him walk in UFA?

Matthews is the harder one. Does he get a blank check and sign him this off season. Do you risk going into the season with him as a UFA, or do you overpay in the off-season just to lock him up. Leafs will have likely known if it's about money, or if he want to leave for the sunny south no matter what. If he's leaving, do you suffer the wrath of fans and trade him this off-season, or keep him and let him walk as a UFA - in which case Leafs can make Matthews the bad guy.

Both are resigning, they get money from endorsements and will want to build and build on this team. They aren't going anywhere.

I'll have that mindset if it ends up being them as well - but let's be honest if I'm picking one of those two to play in a series today, all the past stuff out the window for a sec, I would much much much rather the Panthers.

Don’t underestimate FLA man, the best team off the rush this year

Series MVP: Samsonov
Biggest pleasant surprise: Rielly
Biggest disappointment: Holl
Unsung hero: Acciari
BOS or FLA next round?: Don’t care

Series MVP: Samsonov (I'd like to give Matthews credit for his 5 goals, but the case for Sammy too strong).
Biggest Pleasant Surprise: Rielly
Biggest Disappointment: Bunting (everyone knew the spotlight was on him RE: refs, and he still got in trouble).
Unsung Hero: Schenn
BOS / FLA?: Panthers. We were 3-W, 1-OT against them, while they were 1-3 vs. the Bruins, including that game where Timmins looked very bad and forced Dubas to completely revamp the Team.

not an easy matchup, they've proved that against Boston. But undoubtedly an easier matchup than Boston. Boston has dealt with Bergy and Krejci out at times plus horrible Ullmark performances. If they win tonight they'll most likely roll in with a healthy lineup and maybe even use their other extremely solid goalie in Swayman if Ullmark keeps it up.

Plus we get home ice against Florida but not against Boston, so there's that too. Crowd will be going bonkers for rd2 hockey

I mean we did just win a series where we only 1 game at home and 3 on the road. Home ice is nice and all but not a game changer.

I look at FLA team that has made one the best regular season teams look very average and held their stars at bay on 5v5 (Marchand 1G, Pasta 1G, McAvoy 0G, Krejci 1G).

Now BOS’s depth scares me but I personally don’t see an easier opponent.

Could be an "easier" round for some teams. If the Panthers beat the Bruins.....that makes easier for the Leafs. If Seattle beats the Cup champs Avs, that makes the West "easier"

Some great first round series this year.....which isn't uncommon in the NHL

I thought the first round always produces great results. With 8 games, there are always bound to be several good ones. It's the latter rounds where things fall off.
That's why playoffs should be E1 vs. E8, E2 vs. E7, etc. Same for West.
Round 2 becomes 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, etc.
Maximize chances that 2 best teams meet in finals.
