Garland likely has negative value due to his term, cap hit, and level of play.

I don't think Debrincat makes sense for Vancouver, but if we assume there is mutual interest between VAN and Debrincat for the sake of this proposal, Debrincat for Demko makes sense. The Senators need a goalie.

A proposal that would make more sense would be Debrincat/Forsberg for Demko/Garland. Forsberg has negative value until he can prove his injuries aren't an issue, it gets Vancouver out of the final year of Garland's contract and saves them a few million a year in cap for the next 2 years. Not to mention, they could buyout Forsberg in 2024 for a very minimal cap hit.

With that said, I think the Senators would prefer something around Debrincat/Demko without the additional contract swap. Their cap is getting tight, and I don't think they would want to risk taking on Garland's term, even with dumping the Forsberg money.

A more logical move would be Debrincat to a third party for a 1st and other pieces, and then the Senators using that return to enable them to send picks/prospects for Demko.

Garland definitely isn’t negative value. Had a bit of a down year yes, but once Tocchet took over he was much better, and last season he was elite at 5v5. He’s a great 2nd line winger with a fair contract

No way Vancouver does this, it makes no sense, VAN already has Kuzmenko and a ton of depth on the wing, why would we ever give up a top 10 goalie in the league for a guy who has a high Q-O and played terribly this season.
