Depends on the team, from Anaheim perspective, we'd give up a late 2nd and a B prospect tops. Yeah, I am aware that's a low ball offer, no, I do not expect it to be seriously considered, but from our perspective, he is a pending UFA, and we have no guarantee he signs here, so we get some goals and flip him at the TDL for whatever we can get.

Other teams who view Jake as the missing piece will be willing to pay a much, much higher price.

It all seems so uncertain atm, every team that you’d think would be in on him has some sort of valid reason why they wouldn’t do a deal.

That aside, I’m thinking maybe Seattle or Detroit?

At Deadline.

If we are trying to compete next season, is moving Guentzel really smart?

That’s where you enter that 50/50 territory of competing now and the future. If you trade him it hurts your shot at competing now, if you keep him you’re losing out on assets to the future. It’s a tough situation so we’ll see how management handles it. Also worth noting if he’s not traded by the deadline next season then I would expect us to re-sign him to that extension and who knows how that looks down the road…. Can’t see us letting him walk regardless.

Here’s an idea… keep our 40 goal scorer. Like it or not we are not rebuilding. He’s not getting moved, nor should he.

More Seattle than Detroit. Thing is, both teams are ascending and needing a scoring winger. Seattle has more cap flexibility to resign Jake (Detroit has many young players we hope need raises).

I have to think the return for Guentzel is going to be underwhelming, as a different poster noted every team has a valid reason not to trade. His last deal was team friendly, I would assume this is the last contract for Guentzel, so I won't expect any discounts will be given for an over 30 currently great player.

Yea I think it’s gotta be Seattle as the front runners and then Detroit is probably in the mix but isn’t going to give us the offer Seattle will give imo.

I think we could get a 1st rounder + A level prospect at the deadline maybe a little more.

This team would kill in an over 35 beer league but can’t see them competing with the younger talent deep teams like NYR, NJD, CAR.

I’d love to see the pens trade Guentzel for gritty skill player like a JT Miller and chase one more cup but starting to look like they should burn it all down and rebuild. Give 87, 71, 58 a chance to win a cup somewhere else and try to get lucky again at the draft.

I might sound like a kid but we should keep Guentz. He, along w/ Rust, are our secondary core w/ Rakell & potentially Jars. Not studs but bleed Black & Gold.
