Salary or trade value? Because if you mean trade value I respectfully disagree. Holtz is worth quite a lot even if he has yet to crack the NHL. Kid is 21 and way too good for the AHL.

As a sens fine id be okay with this return , a first, a very high upside prospect, and a top 9 forward that has shown sign of being a capable 2nd line winger. It's a good haul... and frees up some cap space to get a true number 1 goalie

This is a very good proposal for DeBrincat. I assume sens would highly consider it. Nice work!

I mean it's an overpay on purpose. More than you got him for and at least as much as Meier costed.

Don’t like it for the devs, feel the cap can be better spent somewhere else

I would rather keep Holtz on ELC, Sharangovich at $2m, and spend the balance on other priorities.

a) two-way 3C
b) rental top-4 dman (if Graves/Sevo walk)
c) possession winger (if Tatar doesn’t return)

But it would be a fun lineup with cat

Devils have roughly $34,000,000 to sign 11 players. Bratt, DeBrincat plus Meier alone will eat about $25,000,000 of that
leaving roughly $9,000,000 to sign 8 players. Sorry but the math doesn't add up. The odds of New Jersey being able to afford all 3 and sorry DeBrincat and Meier will cost both combined about $18,000,000 or $9,000,000 per apiece. I can see DeBrincat signing for that in hometown Detroit long before New Jersey. And there's already been tons of reports that Meier is seeking $9,000,000+ So good luck with that.

What do you mean the math doesn't add up? 9m each is steep

12 existing contracts at $48.795m

+ Meier $8.5m
+ DeBrincat $8.25m
+ Bratt $8.25m
+ Sharangovich $2.0m
+ McLeod $1.3m
+ Bastian $1.0m
+ Boqvist $0.9m
+ Bahl $0.8m
+ Walsh $0.8m
(Add Holtz, Foote to roster ~$0.9m each)

= ~ $82m

But it means both Severson and Graves walk....and we'd have to replace with Hughes and Walsh

Unimportant. Whichever one is more ready gets the roster spot.

Nemec is 19. There's a significant chance he isn't ready. Walsh on the other hand would be in the NHL for most other teams.

Spend it on a 3C then. Just because you have cap to spend doesn’t mean to spend it. Save it for flexibility, trade deadline moves, etc

Yeah if that were the case someone would’ve dealt for him by now. Guys mediocre at best

Which season will be better value for us in long-term?

Nemec at age 19 making $918,333
Nemec at age 22 making $886,667

If he plays more than 9 games in NHL next year....

2023-24: $918,333
2024-25: $918,333
2025-26: $918,333
2026-27: New RFA contract

If he spends another year in AHL...

2023-24: (slide)
2024-25: $886,667
2025-26: $886,667
2026-27: $886,667

The current difference between Nemec and Walsh is small (in 4 years, it will be huge).

Walsh is leading all AHL in goals in current playoffs.
Has produced two great seasons in AHL, on all ends of ice, in all situations (5v5, PP, PK, etc)
Is a favorite of the fancy stat crowd (according to Hockey Prospecting, is 5th best dman prospect, ahead of guys like Jiricek, Edvinsson).

There is nothing to suggest he is mediocre....if anything, the evidence suggests he will be better than we think.

So you're gonna dismiss out of hand that analytics loves him and that he looks ready to make the jump?
