Reassess

Created by: saysthemachine
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 25, 2023
Published: Apr. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team needs to be allowed to take a step back and reevaluate what they're working with.

I'd like to see the following:
- New coaching staff. This team is a 2 billion dollar company, they should spare no expense here.
- End the Goodrow experiment.
- Promote Jones
- Promote Cuylle
- Give Pajuniemi a shot in preseason
- Find a close to ready 3C, use Trocheck as 2RW/2C Alternate w/Fil

I like Cates and would be willing to pay a bit more than shown for him if it takes that, but Philly seems further from contention to warrant keeping Cates, but what do I know?

Flyers decline

I figured. I am curious to know what Flyers fans think of him and what it would take. The press I've read has been glowing and very optimistic (potential 1C talk), and I don't think that tracks with what I've seen from him.

I wouldn't say 1C, but certainly a middle six guy who plays elite defense and has seen his offensive numbers tick up a bit. Last year he 9 points in his first 16 games and this year had 38 points in 82 games. With that level of defense and becoming perhaps a 45-50 point guy, he's much more valuable than the trade offer here. And he's only 24 on top of all that, plenty of room to grow both sides of his game.

Cam Talbot is seeking anywhere from 2-3 years @ $2,500,000-$3,000,000 per. And he's signing with no bottom feeder either.

KAM's agent should be fired to take that amount AND term. If Rangers pull off a show-me $3.5m, it's because the rest of GMs are cowards. KAM at $4.2m for a 2nd rounder should put so many teams in play.

I hope the Rangers buy-out Jeep and he decides to come back to TB relatively cheap.

IMO both LAF and Miller should be in play for a 4.3m X 2 offer sheet. If signed the Rangers could match only one. Now if the player think it THAT important to stay Ranges and a 40% haircut so be it, but I"m with you....there are offer sheets that should be made.

We'd probably match any offer sheet on either/both of them and it wouldn't be worth the heat in going after them, but we'll see. During the regular season he's looked very good for stretches but in crucial games he's not only ineffective, but outright horrendous. He gets a lot of love for his reach and stride and not nearly enough criticism for his lack of hockey sense and bad decision making. I wouldn't be surprised if 4.5 feels heavy when you're looking for an impact player who doesn't have to do it all and get some of the performances he's put up.

People always bring up the "hometown discount", but these players only get some much time to cash in. Fox is great, but Ranger fans thinking he was taking so much less than he ended up taking were nuts.

There difference between a $3.5 and $4.5 player is a lot more than the guys arguing about $9m or $10m

2 year bridge and then getting Trouba money while playing for a contender vs trying to get a little extra money tomorrow… we’re talking about a star player not a bunting who needs to cash in big this summer because he won’t be in the N in 4 years. Those bottom 6 guys yes, they will take every 100k more that they can. NYR can get KAM marketing money that would make up the difference for the next 2 years. But you’re welcome to dream about it

Talking about a star....? So the stars are taking less money? What is the last young star for the Rangers to knowingly take less than they could? And you can't use Monday morning QBing where a guy like Lindgren outplayed his contract after. Chytil just got over $4.4. Is he more meaningful at 3C than KAM at 2LHD?

Future star.. didn’t think we needed to specify this haha. Anyways I have no reason to waste time arguing back and forth on this.. you’re absolutely correct is saying there’s a chance that an OS gets signed by him. It’s highly unlikely as is but realistically it needs to be life changing $ that increases the compensation and is enough for Drury to pass on.. calculating the 100k more than NYR can afford isn’t happening. It’s a joke

Laf will sign the kid line bridge deal 2× 2.3m, which Chytil previously signed. KAM will sign 3 or 4x 4.4m

Yea, $4.4 is much closer to KAM's worth. Laf hasn't proven much, so 2yrs makes sense. Chytil has good potential to play above his contract.
