Nah, we don’t take that deal unless your ‘24 or ‘25 first lottery top 10 protected, is in there and negotiate value down from there.

Gee, I have three draft pick value charts, and the oldest says that package gets you 18th overall, the one from The Athletic says it gets you #22, and the most recent (published after the Seattle expansion) says you get #31.

Send them! I love more data. That just happened to be the one I found recently. Certainly not INTENDING to be misleading.

Mind sending them? I want to find some draft value charts to see what the pens could do with their pick as far as trading down

I don't see anything like that being an option because once that protection gets enabled...the next year isn't guaranteed to be much better. I could add more like @OldNYIfan suggests, but not likely a 1st. By chance. Do you know PITs 1st round history the last 15 years? You might be better off.

I can't (I'm 75 years old, and haven't figured out how to import a picture to be my avatar), but my esteemed friend @gretzkyghosts has compiled a set of them in this thread:

https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/704040

so help yourself and thank him.

Then the Pens would probably look elsewhere, I can’t see them foregoing a first round pick completely out of 14th OA.

Also I’m not too worried about that, we have a new GM coming in so there’s no reason to be stuck up on that, a first rounder is a first rounder, you have a pretty good shot at hitting on a player with the pick placement we’ve got.

I could certainly add more as @OldNYIFan suggested. I just thought getting more prospects in a deep draft might be of interest to PIT since their farm system needs a lot of help. 1 player isn't likely making that difference.

Think we would be hard pressed to get the Pens 1st this year. Their new management are likely going to want that 1st and may even look to acquire more capital on top of that.

It's a hard thing for a new GM. Walk into a room and tell Crosby/Malkin that you're NOT trying to win a cup. That you're trying to acquire more draft capital. Just look at Stamkos...F them picks. We're trying to win.

And you’re absolutely right, I think we will take it into heavy consideration and hopefully we trade down is my hope. As you said it’s a very deep draft, I’d rather have 3 top 25-60 picks than 1 in the top 15 for a team with such a dry prospect pool. Would immediately be a boost to the farm after this year’s draft.

Thing is that FSG has noted its still cup or bust in their eyes, would imagine new GM would rather trade that first for a player than more picks. Their farm system stinks and whenever the rebuild starts it's going to be rough regardless.

I dont see the Wild taking this deal. Although it is a league minimum deal, I would think the wild would move up one of their prospects

FSG commonly say 1 thing and do another unfortunately (ask Red Sox and LFC fans) but I do see the sentiment.

Pens are up against the cap, so will need some creativity and perhaps moving back in the draft may enable them to move some of the cap to give them flexibility. Problem is, theres not a lot of assets to be acquiring and the FA class isn't particularly great.

up against the cap? Lol they have the 8th most open cap in the offseason this year ($20M), and would imagine it opens further by buying out Granlund, and looking to trade someone like Rutta.

It's also tough imo to compare the NHL to MLB and EPL, owners need to spend money in MLB/EPL to win anymore, NHL isn't pay to play. The right GM will still be focused on a cup given the seasons Malkin and Crosby just had.

If they trade their Frist it will be for an NHL player that helps now imo.

Yes I agree that if they trade their 1st its fora player.

What I meant by the FSG ownership comment is that they are underwhelming with their promises.

Cap wise, theres spots to fit, players to re-sign and yes moving Granlund could be a thing.
