Offseason

Created by: NickC1988
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: May 9, 2023
Published: May 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Probably going to make a few more trades whether it's trading up in the draft or trading for cap dumps.

Basically, I'm expecting KD to insulate Bedard with established NHLers that are free agents. I think he will overpay, but keep the term within 3 years to prevent them from impacting the cap situation in the future.

Out in 2024: T. Johnson, Dickinson, Blackwell, Tinordi, Forbort and Mrazek
In: Domi, Wood, Monahan to replace those, with cap space for a loaded draft class.

Why did you put Domi on the first line ahead of Monahan?

Also no way the bruins give up that many picks for a one year cap dump. They need to keep picks

Why do we want Forbort? Lets develop our own D prospects. Phillips should be cutting his teeth with Murphy.

I'd bet my life the bruins don't end up needing to attach ant picks to Forbort to dump him, the NHL has always overvalued big bodied PKers that are terrible at everything else other then PKing.

Boston declines. They will buy him out before they do that. But they’ll have no problem getting a late pick for him.

Our D prospects aren't NHL ready. I don't think Korchinski is ready like everyone else believes. He's not great in his own zone yet and given the expected roster next season, he'll be facing a lot of tough minutes, especially in road games. Is it really going to help his development playing against MacKinnon and Rantanen? I think the 24-25 season is where we'll see a lot of prospects make the jump to full time NHL action (Korchinski, Slaggert, Nazar, Rinzell, Commesso). Coincidentally, this will be right around the time for the hawks to begin contending. Perhaps they sign one of the many stars available in the 2024 free agent class.

We will see how it shakes out, but i'm not opposed to them coming together or individually. If they deserve to be here so be it. Part of the reason the hawks were successful in the 2010s was because of how their prospects matured in different years. Byfuglien, Bickell, Shaw, Teravainen. I think KD weaponizes the cap space to acquire picks this season, then weaponizes the picks to acquire RFAs teams can't afford in 2024.

Time to give prospects like Phillips and Vlasic minutes, let them sink or swim.

Let Korchinski, Del Mastro, Rinzel, Allan etc marinate further

I'm fine with what you're saying regarding taking time with prospects, especially Korchinski. Obviously high ceiling, but lets not rush him like Boqvist. I very much agree with you on that. Vlasic isn't a kid and Phillips while drafted lower is only a few months younger. Rockford will still have Del Mastro and Kaiser as their #1/#2. Then plug one of Roos/potentially Allan or vet.

I concur with both of you. There's no need to rush any prospect, and every indication from KD is he's interested in long-term development. Bedard will make him more active via trade/free agent signing to put some talent around Bedard. Hopefully, he can keep those deals relatively short term to allow space for 2024 free agents and Bedard/Korchinski/Reichel extensions in 25/26.
