I left out Bergeron and Krejci because they will either sign with Boston or retire.
Question...
1. Who would you put in the lineup over one of these players?
2. Which position is the strongest?
3. Which player is most likely to sign for the highest cap hit?
4. Which player /players will get overpaid?
Bertuzzi is gonna get a huge contract somewhere and it'll be totally worth it at first, then his body will fall apart in his early 30s and it'll be an anchor on the back half
1. Severson > all the RD
2. Probably wing. Thin at center, some solid dmen, just not many.
3. Due to the cap jump next year, there will be a handful of guys that will seek 1-year, high-dollar Klingberg/Hall special. Probably one of them.
4. Bertuzzi, Bunting, Graves, Dumba

Severson is better than all 3 of those RD. The NJ fan is right.. I'd also take Hill over the 2 goalies.
Depends on what TYPE of defender you're looking for. Severson is better OFFENSIVELY then the others listed here, for sure. But both Dumba and Soucy are better DEFENSIVELY than Severson. While it's true that Soucy faced lesser competition, he still rates higher by percentile across the league for defensive metrics. Conversely, Dumba faced stiffer competition and still rated significantly higher by percentile across the league.
Soucy and Dumba are both more physical and grittier players than Severson is too. So again, it depends on what TYPE of defender a team is looking for.

Severson is the youngest our the four (got 2 years on Mayfield).
Severson is a righty (Soucy is lefty).
Severson is the only one that has had positive impact on both sides of the ice.
Severson is 74th percentile for defense (and he's called an "offensive" guy)..."defensive" dman Mayfield is 75th percentile
Severson is 98th percentile for offense (vs 7th, 47th, and 31st percentiles respectively)
Severson is one the league's best for d-zone exits.
Severson has played 217 (of possible 220) games over last three seasons. Dumba (187), Soucy (192), Mayfield (199) have all missed time.
Severson can play PP and PK (Dumba, Soucy, Mayfield do not play PP)
