The whole NHL draft and this website is nothing but wishful thinking.

From a base value perspective, yes. The 3 picks are higher value than the one. But if Michkov is there I’d be willing to say f*** it. Michkov being there at 7 is a pipe dream but stranger things have happened on the draft floor and great Russian prospects have fallen before.

Picks 41 and 43 in a deep draft still have the value of 20 + 1st round picks in this years draft. That just how valuable those picks truly are. And Mickov is still 3 years away Yzerman wants something that will help us now. That's why i have to think he'll go after either Connor or Debrincat.

I want Yzerman to make every single pick they have this year. Unless the opportunity to trade into the top 4 presents itself. These DeBrincat trade proposals have got to go. Take BPA all day, develop them for a year, trade Kubalik and Perron next deadline, see which of Matthews, Nylander, Aho, DeBrincat, Meier, Stephenson, Reinhart, etc make it to FA. At that point we'll have assets coming out the wazoo. That is the time to swing a big time trade.

Yeah i would rather keep the 9th soon to be 17th and the 41st 42nd and 43rd overall pick. If our scouting team plans it right. Those 5 picks will be extremely valuable and should be closer to helping us compete once again. I personally agree i don't mind DeBrincat in UFA but don't want to give up assets for him. Kubalik and Perron should have another good season. So both should at least bring us 2nd round picks not season at the TDL if we're out of it once again. Just keep building up those picks as much as we can.

My only issue is the Isles pick. Yzerman may have a different idea, but I think there is a slim chance we can get two of Pelikka, Moore (both might be off the board by 9), Smith (high ceiling or bust), Leonard, Reinbacher, or Yager. If only 1 is available, and they are all gone at 17/18, then trading the pick for something else is better than getting a winger who can maybe help in a few years. There's a lot of good wingers in this draft, but none are close to ready outside of one's projected in the top 10-15 overall. Even still, I know nothing of Sale, Wood, or Heidt, and I'm not impressed by Benson

It's going to anger a lot (but not all) of Habs fans here because they are so impatient but if Michkov is on the board at 5 Montreal takes him.

It's probably true. And they likely wouldn't trade that pick to Detroit if they wanted Michkov.
The cost to move up from 9 to 5 would be too high also and Montreal also has a lot of picks in this draft so they have very little incentive to drop down to acquire more picks.
Philly on the other hand has only the one pick in the first two rounds. So the possibility of dropping two spots from 7 to 9 and gaining two extra picks would very be alluring to them.

I mean they have too, I think it's a stretch to take Carlsson or smith before him but I atleast understand that. If teams start taking Dvorsky or Leonard before him I'll be shocked.

You really can't go wrong in the top 5. I'd personally take Carlsson over Michkov but Larkin is really the only center we have. Now if we had a healthy Vrana and Bertuzzi both of them can make a center look better than he is.

Stenberg looked pretty good at the u18s , I've seen him ranked anywhere from like 20 to 50. I wouldn't hate him with one of our 2nds but I think we could do better at 17 or 18. He's in that range though.

We should probably trade the 17th pick to get someone who can help now. We are much further from the playoffs than we were at the start of last season and there aren't UFAs available that can get us back to where we were at the start of last season.

Flyers accept. You could probably do 1st, 2nd and a late pick. I doubt the flyers have interest in michkov. We don’t have a strong history with developing Russians like DET does and Danny B probably won’t want to make a risky pick because he wants to keep his job

See being farther away makes me think we should draft guys instead. Trading Hronek to me and probably perron and kubalik soon says wait to me.

Trade Bertuzzi then complain about the team not having enough grit.

Trade Vrana and Hronek then complain about the team not scoring enough.

Bertuzzi was going to walk. He's worth 6-7 million a year, just not over 7-8 years
Hronek wanted over 7 million and he's just not worth that. Good offense, not good enough defense.
Vrana couldn't get his life together. 5.25m for a guy who didn't care for himself.
I'm pretty happy with getting the 17th overall in 2023, 43rd overall in 2023, A 2024 1st Round Pick, a 2025 4th Round Pick and a 2025 7th round pick for those guys.

Yeah but it's what they did so you just have to lean into it now I think. I get vrana and Bert atleast, I never saw them here long term anyways. It's things like we draft a million ld and have a bunch about ready but then sign 3 veteran ld to multi year deals in 1 season but trade the 24 year old Rd away that we can't replace. It makes me wonder what the plan really is.
