I can honestly say I never thought Schenn was going to be this impactful for TOR when they acquired him. He has been fantastic, I hope they keep him. He has paired so well with Rielly, who I gave a lot of **** too (and rightfully so during the regular season he was garbage) but IMO Morgan has been TOR’s best player this playoffs (important goals/defensively) all of it. Playoff Rielly is a thing and I’m happy we have him.

As someone that generally enjoys advanced stats, the Rielly - Schenn pairing is a prime example that they mean nothing sometimes. Hockey is a weird sport

I love the advanced stats and agree they don't always tell the story but even those paint that pairing in very good light.

Like, if TJ Brodie is not injured TOR needs to look at getting another top D this offseason. His play has been very concerning. On a positive note I thought Liljegren looked awesome last night, looked like the guy we saw before the TDL.

Brodie's hurt I can see it. As play cannot drop that bad just does not feel natural for what we were seeing in the reg season. He looked good in the reg than tanked. Like wtf lul. I think it happened some point in the Tampa series but just cant find when

That said I have honestly been eyeing a Dman in this UFA class anyways even if he was good or not

Connor Clifton, Erik Johnsson would also be okay but on a 1 year deal

There are a lot finger’s you can point out on this play but to me it looks like Brodie can’t push off (maybe a groin/knee) as Reinhart blows past him. But even his decision making is off. He absolutely deserves the benefit of the doubt he has been fantastic all year and ever since he became a Leaf.

Forgot which game it was but in one of the Tampa Games he took a bit hit and after that I noticed his skating never felt the same. In the offseason got a feeling were gonna hear hes getting Surgery or something

There are some really good players on the bad side of that. Rantanen and Gaudreau surprise me.

I was more referring to their individual defensive WAR stats in the regular season being bad

Rielly was hurt and I honestly never believed that Schenn was going to be this good. He's played inspired hockey. Scares me sometimes still but he's been very good with Rielly who's just been next level these playoffs.

It also comes down to regular season Rielly and playoff Rielly.

Totally, and he's always been just nuts in the playoffs. He does enough good in the regular season as well

Those who claimed that Bob was stealing games 1, 2 and 3 well...in game 4 the Leafs did just enough of what I had been preaching for them to do. Case in point: the Marner goal.

Must do more of what happened on that goal if the Leafs are going to win more games.

Morgan Rielly just went back to what we saw last year for the playoffs but better. Like that time off did him good as he looked like the guy we saw get those 60+ points and made all the doubters look bad.

Hopefully he keeps it going and doesnt get hurt again

“ I think the Leafs have underperformed relative to my own expectation, but I also don’t think that they’re down 3-1 in this series on overall merit. They’ve spent a lot less time in the defensive zone than they did against Tampa Bay, they’re forcing the Panthers defenders to cough up the puck a lot, but the problem is the offence, specifically, finishing:”

I hate that another postseason might come down to a lack of finishing, such a broken record.
https://twitter.com/jonassiegel/status/1657057835354652674?s=46&t=dH-VoNCgylRI5xOiyMXqOQ

With only 2 goals scored in each of their last 6 games this roster is constructed that makes it imperative for the elite offensive talent they pay for to deliver (Matthews 0 goals in 4 games, Tavares 1 goal in his last 8 games, O’Reilly 1 goal last 7 games, Nylander 1 goal in his last 8 games, Marner 1 goal in his last 8 games)

And you are not getting much from the supporting cast (Bunting 1 goal in 6 games, Jarnkrok 1 goal in his last 10 games, Kerfoot 1 goal in his last 6 games)

This would be a great time for the big guns to take control and show just how good they can be.

Need a big game from Keefe too, 5-11 career home record (1-4 this playoffs)

So... In the Florida series so far:

Marner w/ Matthews at 5v5 56% xG.

Marner w/o Matthews at 5v5 11% xG.

If we are wondering why Marner is with Matthews... It's because Matthews is carrying him.

Nylander w/ Tavares at 5v5 xGF% 54

Nylander w/o Tavares at 5v5 xGF% 76

Unfortunately

Marner w/ Tavares at 5v5 xGF% 19

Marner w/o Tavares at 5v5 xGF% 56

Tavares at 5v5 against FLA
CF% 45
GF 0 GA 3
xGF% 46

The will is there but the speed of the game is way to fast for Tavares and O’Reilly. The need to get a young cost controlled 2C is very imperative next season.

I would whole heartedly put Pontus Holmberg in the Top 6 atleast once next season. He did so many little things right in his time on the 4th line
