Ottawa would pass - Vegas first is too late to justify the rest of the package being so weak.

Hague, Vegas 1st in 2023, 2nd in 2024, 2nd in 2025 to Ottawa for Debrincat could be interesting though.

I suppose. I'm a bigger fan of Smith than most.

I would say you're short a player Ottawa could use on the wing. Maybe that's Marchessault + the first if Vegas gets knocked out by Edmonton?

I would do that, but VGK might not since he was a big part of their history

I'm not so sure. The physical element is nice, but he wasn't a top 4 defenseman in Vegas and he's at an age now where any significant growth is unlikely. How confident should we be that Hague will be a significant improvement over Ty Smith? And is he really going to be worth a higher return than John Marino got?
It's an interesting trade, but I think we can do better for the price.

Is it that awful? DeBrincat def. lowered his value and this is roughly what OTT payed for Cat 1 year ago. Add on that he is now going to ask for more and is it really that bad of a trade?

lol. Keep thinking that, would say that's most likely what Ottawa can expect to get. a 1st and 3rd in this years draft is better than a 1/2 in last years draft by a mile given this years draft class.

This is an underwhelming offer for DeBrincat and Howden is worth no more than a 4th round pick.

If DeBrincat will sign for 8 million x 8, he'll be staying in Ottawa.

Ottawa declines.

Try again.

8x8 in VGK because no state income tax, will cost OTT closer to 9M

If DeBrincat needs closer to 9M on an 8 year extension with Ottawa, then so be it.

Given that Vegas' 1st will be #27 overall or lower, you'll need to offer something significant in addition to the 1st.

This ain't it.

If you think a 25th overall pick this year is worth more than last year's 7th overall pick, I have real estate to sell you in florida.

Not even close, Vegas' first this year will be 25-32th overall, Sens gave up the 7th overall pick last year. Not all first round picks are the same.

Ottawa has no need for Hague and we would much rather quality roster players than endless picks. So no thanks.

But that's what I mean in lowered value, you still get: a 1st, 2nd and 3rd but bc Cat isn't coming off a 40 goal season, that 1st goes from 7th to 25-32. You do also get Howden which is a nice bonus (from what I've seen, I'm a big fan of how he plays)

We're already marching toward cap hell. Why add another massive contract when we have young players on ELCs waiting in the wings?
