Description
Don't need a massive makeover of the core, but as much as I would like Marner to stay he has to go. Has been none existent over the playoffs when things get tight. Over a ppg in the first 4 games of a series, but averages to less than .75 ppg from games 5-7. Can't have that if we want to go far. As much as Matthews was a ghost against Florida you can't get rid of a b2b Rocket Richard Winner and Hart Winner. Let Bunting walk, he'll want 4-5, he's not worth anything remotely close. Let Holl walk as well. He's been the scapegoat of this season, and he hasn't been good, on for a vast majority of goals against these playoffs and his decision-making is wack half the time, but people need to give him some slack, he is one of our best PK'ers, but we've got a lot of D depth now, he can go. $4.5M left in cap space for leeway if any of the guys want more, specifically O'Reilly, we need him back. Not sure if the Van trade will go through, but a change of scenery for both those players is almost necessary and JT could be a great playoff performer and provide that scoring touch we need when things get tight. Probably won't happen, but I think this lineup gives us the best chance of doing some damage in the playoffs.

Marner plays most minutes of anyone, kills penalties, 100 pts, he’s toning nowhere.

If Vancouver sheds Miller, It's to shed salary not take more on.

No team is giving up a 2nd in a very deep draft for a concussed goalie.

He does that in the regular season, he is nowhere to be found when the playoffs come around which is what really matters. He gets way too nervous and stiff when making plays in tight playoff games. You can't win with him in your lineup, you just can't.

Then let TO retain some salary and Van give up a few more picks, I mean one is a 100pt scorer and the other an 80 pt scorer, Van getting the better player by a pretty decent margin so I'd say they'd be willing to sacrifice the extra bucks for that.

And as for Murray, that's why the leafs are retaining 25%. He's still a good goalie when he's healthy, a big upgrade on Mrazek and that's all I see Chicago fans wanting from us in this armchair gm stuff.

The team does not have enough change
Jt miller + Tavares destroys the cap situation for awhile and Miller does not fit the leafs timeline
Murray’s contract will cost more to dump

Vancouver would add Myers and think about Marner to Canucks could play top line with petterson and kuzmenko also can would probably also add boeser and garland and then they’d accept

Tavares, who I would absolutely love to get rid of, has an nmc, so u can't move him, but he only has 2 more years left on his contract, and sure it's not ideal paying those 2 a combined $19M but u shed $2M and get a goal scorer for Marner who goes ghost in the playoffs. Matthews was dealing with something no doubt, and Nylander, despite all the **** about him not being worth his $7M and the worst, has shown come playoff time he's the best of the core and actually shows up. With the addition of O'Reilly in the trade deadline this year i think this group goes far provided they are all going. This notion that they aren't a playoff team is stupid, they came back down 3-2 against Tampa in game 3, 4-1 in game 4, and beat them in 6. Some bad bounces and Matthews, Marner, and Tavares going ghost-handicapped them against Florida. That group could definitely go far if Florida's squad can.

yeah, they aren't adding both Boeser and Garland to that trade. Maybe, maybe one, but not both + Miller.

Normally I would agree with you, however Vancouver would make an exception in this case.

Take out the 2nd back to Toronto and the Hawks still decline. Why does Chicago want a G tandem with two guys who can't stay healthy for a 2nd year in a row? They don't. Hawks will roll w/ Mrazak and Soderblom in goal. And if the Hawk's did acquire Murray, they don't need retention. They'd want that Boston '23 1st for sure
