I'm pretty sure the depth chart after Bucky is basically nothing, so if they are going to trade him, I would imagine Vanacek, Blackwood, and a conditional second that becomes a first if you make the ECF and Bucky plays over 50% of the games in the playoffs would be something they would consider.

Gives them a younger, decent tandem to go forward with while they redraft a team.

I definitely figure a goalie going the other way, but seems a big name prospect is what Jets fans are looking for. I’ll begrudgingly give up Casey but nothing more than him. Think that’s more than fair

I can't see waiting until 25 for a 1st as appealing to the Jets at all unless the prospect is upgraded quite a bit.

Hawks decline. They have 4 goalies signed for next season already. Don't need to pay for a 5th.

I don't trade Casey for Hellebuyck. Maybe for Sorokin or Saros.

There is not a better prospect in play here. I’d offer the 24 first but I don’t know the availability of the pick because of the conditions of the Timo trade. If we can move that pick it’s a ‘24 first and Casey but if you want a better prospect it won’t come from us.

That's cool. If the Jets decide to trade Hellebuyck there will be no shortage of suitors, so they should have no problem finding an offer with pieces they like.

Sharks fans said same thing about my Timo offers. And I ended up offering better than they got 😉

It's not that it's a particularly bad offer. It's just unreasonable to think that you will be able to get 100% exactly what you want without making an concessions to Winnipeg wants and needs. Expecting Winnipeg to wait 3 drafts for the most valuable piece to them and taking back a bad contract likely pushes it too far to be acceptable.

I understand the draft pick. And if I could do better than ‘25 I would. Im just under the impression the ‘24 pick can’t be moved unfortunately until the conditions of the Timo trade aren’t made (making 2024 ECF). Seamus Casey is a very legit prospect, but maybe Winnipeg values a center or wing. I don’t know your needs over there. We do have a high level talent from Russia (Arseni Gritsyuk), but I know hearing the word Russia makes some run for the hills lol.

We actually think we have our goalie of the future in Dom. Was a 7th round pick last year but was ohl goaltender of the year this year. Need a 2 year bridge to him though so Vanacek could be park of the return as devils need to shed that salary. We could even retain 50% on Helle to make the move cap neutral this year.

25 1st isn’t really that appealing so I’d rather give that back, with the retention to upgrade the prospect from Casey. With Hamilton, Marino and Casey long term on the right side, I’d also want to talk about if we could add to get Nemec? We add Ehlers, 50% retained for 2 years to Helle 50% retained for this year and DeMelo as a bridge to Casey…. I can try to put together an actual offer I think could work but the reality is if we got a third team involved to eat 50% of Dillon’s contract…. Could be a massive trade that works out for both teams…. Would require Nemec though…. So…?

It’s been the position of the devs organization that Mercer, Holtz, L. Hughes, and Nemec are not available in trade talks. All 4 are expected in the lineup for opening day next season.

I'd trade Holtz over Casey right now, but not in a short term move like this. Devils need a long term solution, not a next year one.

Casey is still at least another 12 months from playing in the NHL. Holtz is in the top 6 to start next season. We have a log jam at RD behind Hamilton, Marino, and Nemec. Casey is a phenomenal player, but one that can be sacrificed to put us over the top. Doesn’t have to be Helle either. This package can be given for Sarros or Swayman too.

In my view from this retool the top priority is figuring out how to get a rhd prospect with top pair potential. Then a distant 2nd is figuring out our top 6 c position going forward. We have internal options like Perfetti, Lambert, Lucius, Zhilkin but none of them are proven.

Graeme Clarke would be another name I’d be interested in. He’s probably near nhl ready as a bottom 6 rw option?

Graeme Clarke is NHL ready. Lot of fans were calling for him by the end of the season. In terms of packages I can give you Casey and Clarke with a conditional 2nd? We win ECF in ‘24 and it turns into a ‘25 first. We give you that and Helle comes with an extension

Casey has high upside. I don't hate Holtz, I just don't think he will be given the chance here. A RHD with his upside will be a rare asset and is being prepped well. I don't think Casey plays here, but his value could still get higher.

I think Tatar jetting out without talking to the media today during exit interviews says a lot of what the devils are doing next season. My belief is Tatar was told he is not being brought back. Holtz fills in the top 6 for Tatar. Casey can get us a big name goaltender; I would suggest we do so.

Yeah, Casey seems pretty good, but if I remember correctly, he is a smallish, offense only RHD. It's good That's he's RHD, but I'm not sure the Jets want to add another small defenseman. Good yes, but not high end imo, but as I said I haven't followed him much.

I just think that without a high end prospect, the Jets aren't going to wait 3 drafts for that 1st. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

In all this though....I think the argument is against this exact goalie. He's 30 in two weeks. While he's been amazing on a flawed team, time is not on his side. No sense in having a 33 year old goalie (if you resign him as he's expiring after next year) in the midst of the window down the road. Goalies tend to decline after 30. While you can find examples of those who didn't, they are the exception, not the rule. To give up that much in terms of value for assets down the road for a likely declining asset doesn't seem smart.

That's totally understandable. If you can find a young, elite goaltender elsewhere then go ahead and do that then. Or maybe Scmid will turn out. You've got a few years where you window is open.

I don't think the Devils need to trade for elite, they could have a strong enough core, similar to CAR, where you just need someone who won't lose you a game. I didn't blame Schmid for games 1 or 2...the team didn't play around him. He stole games vs the Rangers.

I wouldn’t say he “stole” games. I’ll give you game 3. But games 4, 5, and 7 Rangers got choked out and had minimal high danger chances.

Games 5 and 7 he had some huge saves to suffocate the Rangers when it was still close. Even game 4 he only gave up the 1 goal in a 3-1 game. He never let the Rangers to claw back.

End of the day when push came to shove and we needed a goalie to steal a game, we didn’t get it.
