Building Around Bedard

Created by: Beetlejuice

Initial Creation Date: May 11, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1st Overall Connor Bedard

11th Overall: Reinbacher/Dvorsky. Either guy could drop to 11 or both be taken within the top 10, the draft is really going to be all over the place. Reinbacher is a great two-way defensemen with good size and skating abilities and Chicago really doesn't have any RD prospects other than RInzel. Dvorsky is another guy on my board, he has good shooting abilities and a good two-way game and other than Bedard Chicago doesn't have center depth.

13th Overall: Barlow/Perreault/Yager
Colby Barlow has one of the best shots in the draft and I could see him being a 40 goal scorer, Barlow would be a great winger for Bedard down the line. But the thing that might lean away from Barlow is his skating abilities. Perreault is from Illinois and his dad played for the Blackhawks. Perreault is coming off a great season, he has great hockey IQ, work ethic, and passing abilities. But he is only 5'10 and is an average skater and Chicago shouldn't be building their top 6 with smaller players. Yager is an interesting prospect, he's another guy with a great shot and finish to his game. Yager is a center but I think he'll end up playing as a winger in the NHL. Yager stands out compared to Barlow and Perreault in his two way game, Yager is really reliable defensively.

Cant see the Sabres moving out of their lottery position unless its a huge add. Their entire turn around is a result of strong player development and 13th overall pick is likely the last high end prospect theyll add to their pool for a while.

Why? Granlund is fairly cheap to buy out. To throw away a 2nd to move him would be a Hextall move.

I don't see a great reason for VAN to do that especially if Reinbacher is still on the table

It is less than 1MM this year and less than 2MM for 2 more years. Take the hit or eat 1MM from him and get a minor return in a trade. Don't toss away 2nds. They're valuable.

I hear ya, and mostly agree, but, if we could get RD Wallinder at 28 on top of Murphy, I’d have to take it. But there’s no guarantee he’s there at 28?

It's not worth passing up on the upside you can get with a lottery pick. Their highest 2nd round pick is like 14 picks after 28th overall, and Wallinder is projected to go in round 2, so good chance the Sabres could get him anyways.

Canucks don't move the 11th overall pick for one year of relief from Myers...
