Description
Auston Matthews signs a $100 million deal as a free agent.

The RFA signings shown here with one-year terms were signed to two-year contracts in the 2023 off-season, as were the big-ticket LhD (Vladi Gavrikov or Ryan Graves - $5 million for 5 years) and Joonas Korpisalo ($3 million for 3 years). I haven't filled out the Ontario roster with the other RFAs who are due new contracts in 2024.

Which leaves Sean Durzi. The assumption here is that he is dealt for some kind of asset (draft pick or LhD) in the 2023 off-season, as predicted by most of my LA colleagues. Maybe to Toronto in a deal involving the Boston first (28th overall)? Or to Montreal in a deal involving the Florida first (29th overall)? Or to Detroit in a deal involving the Detroit second (40th overall)? I think that Los Angeles would be willing to add in each instance.

And this is why we're not trading for Auston Matthews one season early -- those assets will support him finally getting to the Conference finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in his illustrious career.

Even though it seems a lot of non-Sabres fans try to use the hometown angle as justification for a player being dealt to Buffalo, the reality is that the Sabres don't have that pressing a need for someone like Iafallo - especially at the expense of a 2nd and 3rd pick. Their focus this summer will be first and foremost on reinforcing their defensive corps.

Fine. Then we'll take the Philly second for Sean Durzi and trade Alex Iafallo somewhere else. Win-win-win!

Would rather deal the 2nd for a d-man who actually excels defensively lol

Yeah, but you need a PP QB. Those bums Dahlin and Power STINK at that.

Sabres would only have need for Matt Roy.
