Scheifele and Wheeler have to go. Scheifele could be traded to a contender right away while Wheeler will have to wait until his deal expires to leave Winnipeg. Ehlers' time is also likely up, as he bounced up and down the lineup and couldn't mesh well with any linemates he was given.

As for a Scheifele trade, the Avs lack a legitimate 2C. Scheif's price shouldn't be too high. A first and a C-tier prospect should do. I'd expect this deal to go down at the trade deadline, but it could happen a lot sooner as well.

As for Ehlers, the Capitals should be heavily pursuing him, as they look to contend while also getting younger. Assuming Anthony Mantha gets exiled to the Guangdong Tigers this offseason, the capitals will have plenty of room for Ehlers. I feel like the Jets would benefit from trading up, as they are lacking a superstar prospect.

This carries into the big piece: PLD to the Habs. If this were to happen, Winnipeg native Kirby Dach would likely be heading the other way, along with another player and a swap of picks 5 and 8. The Jets have a shot at drafting a top centerman, and the Habs get their guy in PLD, and are still able to draft at 8.

As for UFA signings, Jonathan Toews would make sense, as their center core was completely depleted. Having him in a room with younger guys would aid their development and transition into the NHL. Adin Hill should be able to take more of the load off Hellebuyck's shoulders than Rittich was able to.

Definitely keep Morgan Barron. Dylan Samberg and Ville Heinola should be given shots this year as well.
