Do the Leafs get a lot back for a top 5 winger in the league? No.

But they get cap space to replace one player with 3 or 4 middle of the lineup players who can contribute.

Makes some sense but I think you would much rather just trade Nylander for Mercer+ then be forced to trade Marner for another defensive defensemen

The devils wouldn't even do Mercer for Nylander one for one.

Mercer is a keeper. As much as I love Marner, I think NJD are better off with Mercer and Siegenthaler over the long-term.

The only route that makes sense at this point would be to move one of our big RFAs, probably Bratt.

If that’s the case why is anyone discussing this trade. You won’t find a single leafs fan who thinks Dawson Mercer and his career high of 56 points and mediocre playoff performance this year is worth half of Nylander

Mercers age 21 season is better than Nylanders. He got more goals, did it with half the PP time, about 3 games worth less of even strength time, and mercer actually kills penalties on the devils 6th ranked PK

Nylander at age 21 put up 49 even strength points. Mercer had 44. The league scoring was significantly lower when Nylander did it. Mercer is a great player but don’t waste your time with this argument

That was nylanders D+4 year, This past year was Mercer's D+3 year. If you want to compare accurately its actually 44 for mercer vs 35 for nylander with mercer being better defensively
