Description
Right now Wright's status is an unkown next year. If he's eligible to be in the AHL then I think that's where he ends up after a short look at the season's start again. The Kraken are in no rush for him to join the NHL roster so give him a season to grow then he ought to be good to step up.
There's not much I think the Kraken can do this offseason to significantly improve, they're not going to break up the forward corps to overpay to bring in a UFA forward who will be too old for the cup window they're aiming for. Realistically picking up Megna to cover the loss of Soucy was the move and either adding a vet or two, or graduating some older AHLers for scratches is probably what will happen.
However, there is one move that would change things on the back end both for the short and long term.
I honestly believe there's a trade to be done with the Avs for Byram, I just don't see them wanting to commit to a 5th D-man long term, and I see them re-signing Toews when his contract runs out. I'm not sure the Kraken have the pieces to put the best package forward, especially if they're not including a 1st round pick which they particularly covet. However, if they can then I believe the money is better spent there to secure a long term piece, than on extending Donato or Sprong, as good as they have been for Seattle this season. The play of Kartye in the playoffs also suggests he could comfortably step into one of their spots on the roster at a lower cap hit.
Cale Fleury would provide the 3rd pairing, cost controlled D-man that would fit the slot in the Avs roster. Nyman fits the 'scoring winger with size' archtype they like and has decent odds of being a middle-6 winger before long. And a pair of picks to restock the Avs bare cupboard would likely be well received too. It's a package whose sum perhaps offers more than a straight 1st round pick and offers benefits sooner rather than later.
Adding Byram and pairing him as the puck-mover to Borgen's defensive defenseman gives them a D-pair that would be effective straight away though would also be a solid Top4 backend option for years to come. And Byram can compete as a PowerPlay option (where the Kraken need help) and alleviate any issue in letting Schultz walk to UFA next Summer. He gets the bridge deal Dunn has just had to prove his worth to the team before the big contract once the cap has taken it's big step up and a few other costlier pieces will have aged off the roster.
The contract on Dunn may look a little rich, but that's the market rate given the season he's just produced, in fact I think his postseason play probably cost him some AAV. He's not your elite 1D, but he is improving, is hitting his prime and I think signing him is better than the cost of acquiring a true 1D through UFA or trade.

Not even close. Everyone is else is in the rink waiting for the puck to drop and you're still in Timbuktu it's that far off.

Greetings fellow Kraken fan! Congrats on your first ACGM! I thought I'd provide some feedback in a constructive manner.

As much as I like the idea of trading for Byram, I just can't see the Avalanche dealing him. When he was drafted, he was compared to his now-teammate, Cale Makar. The only thing holding him back to this point has been injuries; when Byram has played, he has been excellent. Despite the setbacks, his ceiling is still unbelievably high, and I highly doubt the Avs are willing to give that up, at any price. They view him as a long-term building block. If they move a defenseman, Girard or even Toews are more likely candidates. Even in a hypothetical situation, Colorado would likely want premium assets instead of a bulk return.

Besides that, the FA signings look reasonable to me and roughly in line with what we will see the Kraken hand out to their RFAs, and overall I appreciate the thought you've put into this.

I would be surprised if the AVS prioritize Toews over Byram.

Greetings fellow Kraken fan!

There was a time that I was looking for y'all this year but couldn't find a single one of you.

The Kraken could maybe target Toews while giving up one of their centers and futures if they are open to it, but I would like to see SEA target Karlsson since they can potentially take the brunt of that cap hit without handicapping themselves.

Thanks for the feedback @KrakenTheCode and @GMBL!
I appreciate it's an unlikely deal and maybe something more significant moves the other way from the Kraken roster, but I thought it an interesting addition to ponder if we were in the mix at all.
This year's playoff run was ahead of schedule and I believe Francis will stay the course to build around a long-term future rather than try to augment the current veterans in order to take a tilt with this roster. As such I don't think we trade for Toews as he wouldn't fit the age profile we'd be in the market for, despite being an upgrade on almost all of our current D.
And there's no way Francis hamstrings himself with the Karlsson contract given how he talks about valuing cap space and flexibility, to say nothing of the imbalance that would create in the squad, and the reported disquiet that EK65 supposedly brings to a locker room.
There's movement happening in the forward corps next offseason with Beniers and Tolvanen needing new deals and Eberle and Wennberg reaching UFA, but the Top9 is pretty set this year.
Far more likely this Summer is moves on the back end; Dunn, Borgen, Fleury all need new deals, Schultz has just 1 year left on his, and whilst we've acquired some decent forward prospects in the franchise's early years our pipeline for D is very thin and so a move to get younger that provides in both the short and long term is something I can see us doing.

The chances of COL doing that deal are worse than me making my NHL debut next season with the Avs and I’m over 40 and suck at skating.

It's clear you don't understand how good Byram is. It happens. None of us watch every team and every game. But we're literally talking about a guy who has the potential to be a top 10 defenseman in this league for the next decade. Trying to get him for pennies on the dollar just isn't gonna work. You can offer Wright and a first and the Avs probably still decline. Players like Byram just aren't moved at this point in their career.

Now Toews to Seattle, as suggested by @GMBL is a pretty good idea. Damn near every team in the league will want Toews if he hits the block though, so anyone after him better be willing to start with a first and add from there. Not sure Francis will be the one to go there, especially this early, but who knows.

You could do beniers for byrum 1 for 1 probably. otherwise, i don't think the kraken have a player the avs would trade byrum for.
