  1. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
Nylander is a rental that Toronto can't afford to resign, it's either make a deal or lose him next year for nothing. They get Newhook who has a lot of potential that they probably can resign very cheap and a former first round pick that is (maybe) Avs best prospect offensivly. Adding a first this year will make the deal happen. Maybe an overpayment for a rental, but the window is now for the Avs.

Yeah, people said the same thing before Matthews/Marner/Nylander last contracts. "Can't afford them, can't fit them in" blah blah blah.

Then they did, and they will again. Tired narrative.

Avs can't afford Nylander, and that's an overpay for a 1 yr rental.

Well, I can afford him as you can se above with a fine margin and as I wrote above, maybe an overpay but why not go for it again? Then they can decide who of Nylander, Toews, Byram, Girard they need to get rid of

Our first rounder, top prospect, and speedy 30 point 21 year old centre with loads of potential for a good player, yet a rental, no thanks

Leafs have the space to re-sign him...it's whether they choose to give him the money or try and trade him for the sake of giving the roster a different look...but there's definitely no pressure to move him out of fear of losing him for nothing at this point.

Not as tired as it is with TB last year they were going to basically give away Killorn people on here had TB paying to dump him 🙄. And giving Cernak away for 💩. Now it's Cirelli & Cernak ( even though both have long term extensions they just signed 🙄

Toews for Nylander is pretty fair: a high-scoring wing for a guy that can play 1D with both being pending UFA's. Throwing in Newhook is gratuitous and an overpay that the Avs will not do.

I could see it if there was a sign and trade for Nylander, if he comes with an 8 year extension.

That’s a joke where’d you hear that TML psychic friends network, because you wouldn’t get Toews straight up for Nylander because no way COL trades Toews for Nylander much less adds anything.

Not even close. The least valuable position in the NHL in the off season is winger. There is plenty of wingers out there to be had using Landeskog LTIR money, hell you could possibly convince Tarasenko or Kane to sign a one year deal, no way in hell you trade a #1 dman caliber player for a winger. He isn’t Marner.

Yeah, it's fair to say that a guy like Nylander is probably overvalued. I mean, he puts up a lot of points and scores goals which does have value but he isn't a "go-to-the-corners" kind of player. But other people on this site are going to undervalue Toews because he plays with Makar (who, let's face it, can make a decent partner look like an All Star. Kane doesn't score like he used to but Tarasenko would be interesting.

Why do Avs need "go-to-the-corners"-players? Nylander is a point scoring-machine and would have been a X-factor against Seattle. And in fact, he is one of the best around the net in small areas and the most consistent player of Torontos top 4 in the playoffs the last years. A great fit for how Bednar like his team to play. The issue that have been noticed above is that Leafs can use him as their own rental, and don't have to move him.

Have you been watching? They can only surround those boys with people who make under a mill.. then they have to pay 1st rd picks to get rid of players who make money and under perform... great fit

No, they don't have to move him just like the Avs don't have to move anyone, either. The question is, are the Leafs just going to run it back with the same core and hope the result improves or are they going to make some changes? Nylander seems the most obvious choice (even if TO would rather shed Tavares) since he only has one year left.
