Avs absolutely will not be adding a 1st (or anything) in a Toews for Nylander trade.

40 goal scorers in their prime are worth more than puck moving defencemen.

Pffft. Toews is a strong two-way guy that can play 1D; he's easily top-20 in the league. Nylander is a nice player but there will be other goal-scoring wings available plus he's expiring and will want a raise. Straight across is pretty fair.

What good is one year of a 33-year-old defenseman who appeared to be declining during the playoffs to a team which will still finish in the bottom 10 next season? Especially one who's actual compensation is 150% of his already substantial cap hit?

toews is a top 10 defenseman in the league, and the avs need a center more than they need a winger. avs are not doing this trade.

Well I don't mind in if three folks you mentioned are fired. UFA signings are poor for either term or dollars. No way the Avs do that trade. Ducks don't give up a second or Brodie and unlikely Brodie waives.

Top pairing dmen are worth significantly more than wingers. COL wouldn’t do a Toews for Nylander swap straight up.

There were 18 other 40 goal scorers in the NHL, there aren’t 17 better defenseman in the league than Toews. Fundamentally winger is the least valuable position in the league.

Agree, but of those other 40 goal scorers, how many are in their prime? Nylander hasn't hit his ceiling yet, he could score 50 one of these years, while Toews most likely will not get better.

TWO anre over 30 Ovechkin and Scheifle, 12 are YOUNGER than Nylander, 4 the same age.

Then Toews for Nylander makes a lot of sense for both teams. Leafs need defense. Avs need to replace Landeskog.

As others have said it's arguable whether the Avs would even consider a straight swap (I certainly wouldn't). The Leafs would have to add not the Avs.

No it doesn’t. A top pairing defense that can play 25 minutes trumps that. Will the Avs be able to get a 40 goal scorer not likely but using Lankeskogs cap space and keeping Toews is a much better plan.

i think this could happen, give or take some picks. but i dont think you'll find avs fans that prefer it. our window closes faster with nylander than toews.

Lol, Toews is literally one of the best Two-way Dmen in the league. He's a Top 20 guy overall.


Nylander plays the least important position in hockey. And we just saw a 30 goal scorer last summer get traded for basically nothing. Wingers simply sont carry high value.
