LA says no, We want a player to play with Roy, not move Roy.

Mikkola and Motte can both make more than that with the Rangers, even with their cap issues.

Los Angeles is unlikely to ship out a good RHD for one on the wrong side of 30, especially because Roy is cheaper, has the better handedness for a d man, and is 4 years younger. It should be Toronto adding, not LA.

You're not getting a 2nd for Samsonov, from anyone. He was streaky all year and then garbage in the postseason.

Los Angeles declines. We'd rather keep Matt Roy and re-up him when he turns 29 than take Brodie and think about re-signing him at 34 -- especially because he looks like he's slowing down already. And if we unexpectedly trade Matt Roy in a package with Carl Grundstrom, it will be for a 2023 first-round draft pick and/or a high-quality LhD, not a veteran on an expiring contract whose cap hit is effectively the same as Grundstrom and Roy combined. That actually worsens our cap stress.

No interest in Brodie, we are trying to trend younger, they'd be better off signing Gavrikov at $5M than trying to get a 30+ Brodie.

Nevermind the trades, how are you going to extend Matthews and Nylander and find another G to play with Woll next offseason with the limited cap space coming off the books?

Matt Murray as a starter is NOT the way to go. Why trade Samsonov?

Detroit passes, We can probably get Vlader for a 3rd round pick.
