Habs decline as both Dach and Barron are important pieces of the rebuild...and while I do like Toews a lot, LD is the one position the Habs are comfortable with what they have. Toews is also a pending UFA, making it very unlikely the Habs would be interested.

How do you plan on keeping him?

Who is paying more for him?

Habs get a 1st pair D ,which they dont have... at least for a few year. They will have the money available to resign him next year.
Avs solves 2c for few year.
Barron for 1st is for fun...

not a bad trade but with all of the solid D prospects the habs will have in 2-3 years + matheson, i can't see why they would trade for another LD who's going to be asking for 8m+ in a year
also dach is too valuable to trade away

Montreal is rebuilding, Toews is too old for their timeline. You want Dach, you have to offer up Byram.

Even as a pending UFA a top pairing dman is way more valuable than Dach. I’ll give you Dach has 60pt potential but he isn’t more valuable than Toews.

You’re right about the first part, and insanely hopeful if you think the Avs would even consider that. Imo Byram is one of the 4 most untouchable pieces the Avs have. Saying that I understand the sentiment that it would take an overpay to Dach.

Ya he is 22 year old top 6 C on sub 4 million contract is wprth more than a left handed pending ufa dman.

I don't even want Byram. LD is not an area of need for Montreal right now.

But if you're asking for a top 5 pick from the 2019 draft who's had injury issues but has significant upside, you frankly shouldn't be shocked that the ask would be a top 5 pick from the 2019 draft who's had injury issues but has significant upside.

If you want to think of it as an overpay then fine, but it's not.

Except he hasn’t proven he is a top 6 C yet has he? He has one 30pt season, Toews has 50pts each of the last 2 seasons plays 22+ minutes against the best players in the world. The only way you think Dach is more valuable than Toews is if you are an unmitigated homer. I mean Dach has 1 more pt than Newhook the last 2 years averaging almost 5 more minutes a game.

The difference between the 2 is that Byram has proven he can is a top pairing caliber dman in the Cup playoffs when he is healthy.

He was on a 54 point pace and again he is TWENTY TWO AND TOEWS IS TWENTY NINE. No team is taking toews for dach straight up

Yeah you’re right no team wants arguably a top 10 dman in the league they’d rather have a guy who was on pace for a 50pt season. Straight homerism my guy.

No just basic understaing that older pending UFAs are worth less than young player with excellent value contracts.

And top 10 dman dont make me laugh

Ahhh really? So tell me how many dman are you straight up taking before him, Makar, Fox, McAvoy, Heiskanen, Dahlin, Hedman, and Hughes I’ll give you. He was 8th in league in TOI, had 50pts with zero PP1 time, is a lock down defender and PK1 staple, but tell me more how that’s less valuable than a guy with 1 30pt season that CHI rightly or wrongly gave up on him.

I think he's played that role, I would not call him proven by any stretch.

What more does a 21yr old have to do besides averaging 0.5ppg in the playoffs lead the league in plus minus in the playoffs and average almost 20 minutes a game. Knock his health fair, but when the kid has been healthy he has been a beast that’s why he is arguably the 4th most important player to the Avs behind 2 top 5 players in the league and arguably a top 15 player and throw in he is cost controlled and COL does not want to move him for anything short of an absolute haul.
