How a NHL team should be ran

Created by: Jepperz
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 20, 2023
Published: May 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Stan Bowman & Joel Quennville at the Helm. 1st line would all love each other. 2nd line with goal scoring and some speed with injury prone Robertson. 3rd line can contribute offense. 4th line is interchangeable but I like the pieces that can fit. Shane Wright needs more development before he's ready. 3 lines of Competent D pairs. You don't need to stress when you see a pair go over the boards. Auston Matthews will love Kaner

Having Lehner doesn't help or hurt the Leafs cap.
. Marner has two years of till UFA, Eichel had 4.5 years, but I get your point
How isn't Liljgren a top 6 Dman? He played 18 minutes a night last season. He was certainly better than McCabe and Holl is the playoffs.
Kane for three seasons?

Would paying Byram and Rielly 7 mil each really be smart? They do the same thing. Quite expensive.

Leafs have money to burn, and LTIR doesn't effect salary. Liljegren is basically the odd man out with this lineup he has good underlying #'s but Im assuming the next gm won't care. Kane is basically here to assist Auston Matthews and being familiar with Joel's system as well as having a chance to win the cup will be appealing. Not sure on the cap # or term but he definitely is a hell of a Marner replacement on offense.

Minnesota declines at least till the deadline! They aren't trading their 1c right now

Shifting $ to the blue line should be a goal of the next gm in my opinion. Both on separate lines I like the potential offense of the top 4.

avs can't re-sign nylander, so i dont see them sending byrum, who is by far the most important non-core member of the team, for what is a rental.

Sorry, your LTIR scenario has no logic. It's Carrier for Jarnkrok nothing more. Gee, how Liljgren the odd man out? Leafs need all the right Dman they have.....Brodie is a UFA next season, how much longer can Schenn be effective. McCabe isn't really that good. But if he's so bad, why does Cup contending want him? Sorry, just because Liljegrn doesn't have name recognition doesn't make him a poor Dman

Would Toews be more realistic?

I just personally don't think the new GM will want him in a contending Top 6. I like him too just don't think he will be a leaf next year

Interchangeable with 4-5 NHL teams. Or just a potential LTIR play. I understand your logic though

Hard no from COL. 5 guys in COL this off season are untouchable and Byram is one of them. You don’t trade a top pairing 22yr old dman that is cost controlled for multiple years for a winger who is a one year rental.

I’d argue he is part of the core and the 4th most important player on the team long term behind MacK, Makar and Mikko.

Francis definitely considers cap space as his best weapon, and acquiring Marner would not be a move he would make, at least not via trade. Besides, the Kraken aren’t moving Wright, as a Beniers-Wright 1-2 is set for success for at least a decade, whereas there is a high chance that Marner walks after 2 years. Terrible asset by the Kraken in this scenario.

Tolvanen has been excellent since his acquisition, and Eberle has fit in very well as well. Clear offensive upgrade on the wings, but the downgrade to the roster is worse in the long run. You don’t win by overloading the top guns. You win with a committee of depth, and the Kraken already have that, for now and the future.

Murray's base salary is $8,000,000 next season. A deal, more realistically, would be:

Murray
'23 1st (BOS)

for

'23 3rd (DAL)
