Marner is what they hoped Barzal would be.

Barzal played the wing since the Horvat traded.

Barzal defence isn’t as great as Marner. It’s the main reason why Trotz was fired.

We also get back Pulock.

Pulock and McCabe as a shut down pair will be phenomenal.

Then have Barzal and Jarnkrok flying down the wing so JT can bang in net front goals

Both teams needs a shake up. It’s benefits both teams.

The trade makes no sense for the isles. So basically right now, the isles have 2 young center pieces - Brazal and Dobson.
1. you need to add to those guys not trade one away.
2. If the isles traded for Marner and moved Brazal. We are in the same situatioin- Both have no one to play with. That's the biggest issue with Brazal on the isles. He has had nothing on his wings, just rotating guys. Marner would have the same issue.
3. Isles have Brazal for 8 yrs at 9M. We get Marner, we have him for 2 years at over 11M.
4. Regardless of Sorokin, Brazal is still is the face of the franchise
5. Brazal has a no movement clause in his contract. In 2024 he has a limited no move But Toronto won't be one he's willing to move to. He HATES JT and won't join him in Toronto.

Real issue with this is that Marner is one of the most overrated players in the league. He really can’t do anything Barzal doesn’t do except penalty kill, and tbh most of Barzal’s issues are because of Trotz’s coaching. Lambert and Lou are def moving to modernize this team and Barzal will be the primary beneficiary of it.

Pulock has a NTC. Horvat and Barzal were excellent together before Craig Smith’s hit on Barzal. That being said. I don’t love Horvat’s contract, I didn’t even like the trade, but if you look at what he did in Vancouver compared to NY the main difference was the offensive talent around him. Let’s see what Barzal and Horvat can do while fully healthy before hitting the panic button.

Stop posting this Murray trade, the Sharks aren't taking him on to move up less than 10 spots.

Even Chicago would not do a deal like this again and considering the desparation in toronto to dump Murray he's going to cost

and Mrazek's 3.8m AVV hit vs Murray's 6.25m AVV. Leafs fans are completely out to lunch on value of this trade, unsurprisingly.

He has 25 percent retention from Ottawa.

Team look at money not cap especially rebuilding teams. Mrazek was owed 8.6 million and that costed 13 draft spots.

If moving down 10 spots for 8 million (money Toronto has to pay) is fair especially when Ottawa is paying 25 percent (2 million).

Murray is only owed 6 million from Toronto

Even if SJS wants they can buy him out which will cost them, 700k in 2024 and 2 million in 2025.

Furthermore 10 spots for 6 million in actual dollars is fair (Ottawa is still paying 25% of Murray contract) especially when Chicago did 13 spots for 8.6 million.

Y’all act like GMs but don’t even know how salary retention works smh.

Ah yes Marner is overrrated totally didn’t get a selke nomination or anything while being a winger.

Also if Trotz was the issue how come Barzal didn’t break out offensively? Barzal isn’t a play driver like Marner. He great but a tier below Marner and has been since junior till present day.

If you put Marner on NYI you’ll still get 90 points from him with elite defensive play.

Barzal had 51 points in 58 games and his most common linemates were Lee and Bailey…..

OK I didn't know about the 25% retention by OTT. That doesmake it less outrageous

however it's very situational with assuming SJ wants to move up to snag a particular player that they aren't already getting with their 26OA pick. I imagine they would prefer just have another pick to take Murray on

Tavares was PPG with those players in an era where scoring was down.

Your point?

SJS wants to pick 1st overall within the next couple of years. Next years draft Celebrini, Eiserman and Kjiharvu then a significant drop off in talent, 2025 has Misa who might be a franchise player. I don’t think he’s generational but he’s a tier below. We all saw how Mrazek helped Chicago finish near the bottom. Murray will do the same

Bailey is washed now…. And Lee should really be the third best player on a line if he’s playing in the top six.
