Description
This is gonna be a hot take and will probably be roasted for it, but I would absolutely not trade the 1st for a goalie and here's why. The position has been so volatile lately. I know it's costed us big time the last few years, so I definitely think a change is in order. But as we've seen this playoffs, a lot of goalies simply have reached a different gear. Oettinger is probably best one remaining and he's been outplayed by one of Vegas's backups. Bobrovsky was not good regular season and he's been unreal in playoffs. It's just so tough to predict and there are so many high's and low's for goalies. That's why I don't think we should trade the first for one because it's just so uncertain. I think the key is depth. Get two very solid goalie's in free agency with a capable 3rd stringer and just see which one gets hot at the right time. Just my two cents, open to hearing your guys ideas. I'd rather have 3 very solid options as opposed to one higher end goalie and two meh options.

100% agree, I would much rather bring back Jarry and replace desmith with a 1B type goalie in Fa than move our 1st for a Goalie

With you 100%. I hope we go with a solid 2 goalie, 1A 1B tandem, rather than sell out and be top heavy. Plus I don't want to lose this years 1st under almost any scenario tbh ( but I would welcome a trade back for more picks though).

I think it all depends on the goalie too. For Saros I would. For Hellebuyck 50% retained I would. For anyone else that’s supposedly on the block…no way in hell.

Yeah, goalies are really hit or miss from year to year outside of a few like Hank in his prime, and more recently guys like Sorokin. Only like three goalies I’d say are consistent yearly typically.

Jarry + 1B goalie with DeSmith in the AHL maybe? Or are we talking moving in from Jarry and doing 2 new goalies… honestly I don’t think we’ll be able to sign 2 goalies with higher upside than Jarry…
If we traded for Saros or Swayman then I’m also good with that route

Jarry Korpisolo and Desmith I think would be a fine trio. That is if Jarry comes cheap

I’d much rather Freddie Anderson over Korpisalo. At least Freddie shows up when it matters most.

I think he'd be a little more expensive that Korpisolo but it probably wouldn't matter. Korpisalo had that one insane playoff performance but was pretty meh this year in playoffs. I think how we build our defense is going to matter the most though. If our defense and team defense is anything resembling last year I think any goalie would struggle.

Hellebuyck and Saros without question would be worth trading for. I think the new management team needs to complete distance themselves from Jarry and DeSmith. Their injuries and troubled play in big moments need to be someone elses problem.

Jarry and Desmith is a perfectly fine tandem.

That being said, if a first gets you Saros, or Hellebuck retained, I'm doing it. Goaltending might be tough to predict but not for top 5 goalies like that.
