Tougher to Play Against and Draft Trade with CBJ

Created by: JhonnyCanuck5
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 22, 2023
Published: May 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hill- Wings need a quality backup/1B goalie. Hill is young and give Cossa time to develop.

Bertuzzi- I know it’s unlikely he sign with Detroit but let me dream. He gives the Wings 2 things they need, goal scoring and toughness. He loves Detroit and is still close with Larkin

Domi- Similar to Bertuzzi, Domi adds toughness and some scoring potential.

Addison- Young RD who could become part of Detroit’s core moving forward.

This team would be tough to play against with Bert, Domi, Rasmussen, Seider, Chiarot patrolling the ice..

Trade with Columbus: (Trade Values from nhlmockdraftdatabase.com)
Detroit trades up to get Carlsson or Smith- #3 (2200)
CBJ stocks up on draft picks for their rebuild- #9 (1350), #17 (950), and Mastrosimone

You’re not getting that pick. Period.

If you wanted it it would start with Seider.
It woulf also end with Seider cuz Detroit isn’t doing that.

We need centers. This is our shot at drafting one. We’re not gonna trade down.

Every signing is bad, shouldn't touch any of these guys

Minny trade is fine

Cbj will never go for that

You could run all the values you want but that pick has to either be used by the CBJ to pick up a C or be used to bring back a legit 1C. This proposal doesn’t even get consideration.

Pick value charts go out the window in this case. Carlsson (or Michkov if they accept the timeline implications) is an incredible prospect that Columbus will not trade basically anything for.

Care to elaborate on why Hill, Bertuzzi, and Domi are bad?

Erne and Stone are purely 1 year depth(scratched when team is healthy) guys. Reaves would be a 1 year depth/scratch fighter specifically for games like the 2nd of the Ottawa back to backs before the TDL last year.

Wasn’t aware of CBJ’s center prospect situation.

Fair point. Think this package would get #4 or #5?

I definitely think San Jose would listen. Columbus has been amassing very good prospects for a few years now and will be looking to pivot to contention sooner than later, with that coveted center prospect at third overall being the capstone of the process. San Jose, still mired in long bad contracts, is really only just now entering their rebuild. Grier has also shown willingness to trade down for quantity over quality as recently as last year's draft.

Hill always hurt and not consistent until this playoffa, we need someone who more consistent and not as injury prone to back up husso.

Bertuzzi is not worth it at all, older, injury prone, doesn't fit the wings timeline and been there done that time to move on, would be a mistake to keep him, we have a better younger version of him almost NHL ready

Domi has been on 6 teams in 4 years, have way better and more consistent options in the top 6 then him. Rather play a prospect then have this guy here.

Erne is a waste and not even an NHL player
Same with stone

Lots of better options and not clogging up our salary cap and roster with not useful players. I legit rather go with signing 0 people then any of this

Oh and don't even get me started about reeves, waste of space and not an NHL player. Yzerman stated multiple times he's not signing losers like his

So you would sign no one and just hope that Soderblom, Mazur, Kasper, and Hanas are NHL ready with no contingency plan? And no grit to help protect the young guys?

No I said I would rather sign no one then the guys you signed. It's time to take a step forward and signing mediocre players is how you stay mediocre. So if this is the option then nothing, if we can sign or trade for other people I'm all for it

The only fa worth anything to me from the list is barbashev on a 4/5 year deal

Tank if it's like 1/2 years reasonable deal only since we need more scoring on pp

Gudas 2/3 years
Mayfield 3/4 year deal

I just think a lot of our issues can come from trades that other teams need to shed guys and we can take them.

Kings have 2 rookie RD they want in the lineup, that means 1 or both of walker and durzi are out, we should be alllllllll over this as an example

I'd take Gudas for 1-2 years. I'm not a big Mayfield guy. I agree with the Kings RD but who knows if they'll actually shop them.
IMO, Bert is only 28 and he has proven that he can be a 25-30 goal scorer who plays a physical game. Domi is similar to Bert with lighter upside but can still score 20 goals and play well in the dirty areas. Hill has very solid numbers this year and is young. If not him, I'd go someone like Varlomov on a 1 to 2 year deal.
I agree this FA class is weak but I think they're are some guys who fill needs for Detroit. The Wings need goal scoring and toughness, two things Bert and Domi do well.

I'm also open to Vladar but don't love the idea of paying anything more than a 3rd for him.
