Arizona was wilding last night lol. not sure about you but I kind of love the picks, although dangerous to draft teammates if you mis-judge how MHL talent translates to the pros - doubles the swing and miss impact. I hope people don't think Shimy was a stupid pick just because Arizona was the one who made it but time will tell

Would rather have one of Benson/Leonard/Michkov and then have a chance to get Simashev later on, maybe even trading up.
Or
Draft Simashev and have to take a gamble on a Calum Ritchie or Brayden Yager??
To me, you go for the best and then if you like another player a lot, find a spot he gets taken and then trade up with someone who is open. Several tems in the 12-22 range could certainly use more draft capital, most notably the Pens, Flames, and Jets.</div></div>

I'm standing by him being a Top-10 / Top-12 guy until proven wrong on draft day. His upside is insane and his profile just doesn't come around often at all.

Cabbie's Mock 6.0
This feels like a pretty educated effort, good work. I'm a wings fan and honestly think Simashev and Moore may end up flipped 9 & 17. Smiashev is so high ceiling and likely worth the risk pretty early if you think he can be a top-pair guy. And for folks who say we have too many LHD prospects -- really? You wouldn't want to add a top-pairing, big, good skating Dman if the option presented itself? It's the hardest thing to draft -- if you think the upside is there, go for it. Better to trade away one from a wealth of assets than have crappy assets to begin with.

Final Big Board
What's your rationale for the guys you've dropped? Thinking specifically Dvorsky, Leonard, Danielson, Honzek. And what puts Perrault and Wood in the top 8?

Post-Provorov Trade 3-Round Mock
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeROFLCOPTER</b></div><div>Wings <em>probably</em> do not draft Simashev. Not BPA [imo] nor at a position of need.</div></div>
I'm a wings fan and draft junkie; totally understand the full LHD pipeline, but Simashev at 17 I'd go for it. He's lower floor / higher ceiling but has a lot of really great characteristics -- skating, size, transition skills... I think he might have highest ceiling of the D-men this year. If the wings feel he has a decent probability of being a top-pair guy, you take him regardless of who you have. That's a ton of value at 17 and you'd rather be able to trade overflow from your stash of good assets than have no good assets to begin with. Besides who knows what things will look like in 2-3 years at the NHL level.
That said, I 99% think Simashev goes top-15 due to the above. Worth noting Simashev also looked best late in the year / MHL playoffs, which is a classic characteristic of players that mock drafts undervalue but NHL teams adjust based on

Yeah haha we'll see if time proves me wrong, but I just never got very excited watching tape on Barlow. I didn't feel like he drove scoring opportunities for teammates and was third man in a lot. I think that showed on him really poorly in the WJC U18s this year where he was disappointing and lowered his stock. But if that tournament was a blip rather than the norm, I will show out to be wrong on this one
But is a player I really love. I think it would be amazing to see someone in the teens take a big swing on him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeROFLCOPTER</b></div><div>I think Wings pass on Dvorsky if Benson is still there. Also think we would take Barlow at 17. Mainly because we need goal-scoring bad.
Willander, ASP, and Reinbacher all going before 17 would stink. If Yzerman doesn't trade up the pick and all of those players are gone, I'd expect him to make a trade for a current RD with that pick as a centerpiece</div></div>
I think Benson is intriguing, but he is pretty far way from the mold of Yzerman / Draper draft picks. Really undersized, in a junior league, on a good team loaded with firepower and boosting points across all top-line guys... all three are causes for concern that affect his projectability in my mind and aren't worth the risk. I would rather go Leonard or Danielson over Benson at #9.

TW draft 2 2023
This reads a little outdated. Don't think Cristall, Dragicevic, Barlow are that high anymore, and Willander, Leonard, Reinbarcher are certainly much higher. The list CapFriendly puts these guys in isn't up to date any more.

I actually am in the Cozens/Boldy camp over the long term. They're pretty well-rounded players who are finding their stride very nicely. Hard to tell with Z on such a terrible Ducks team, but despite how offensively dynamic he is, he has significant work to do in the defensive zone to be an effective end of game player. Cole very similar.

How far off are these trades
Keller is exceptional, but if I'm Stevie Y I'm certainly starting with #17 and Berggren or #9 without Berggren. Landing here of #9 and Berggren along with 2 seconds would be a very bittersweet outcome and teeters on too much.

Pick value charts go out the window in this case. Carlsson (or Michkov if they accept the timeline implications) is an incredible prospect that Columbus will not trade basically anything for.

I think Willander is more likely to be the Wings #9 pick than #41 at this rate. I don't think he escapes the top-12 or 14 picks. I agree with the Benson slide

Overall I think this is pretty good!
I'm a Wings fan and don't think Benson or Yager will be on our radar because of Yzerman & Draper's profile preferences -- I also think Willander goes quite a bit higher.
Curious what you think of Daniil But who has huge variance in where he may go but is crazy talented. I think he's top-12 talent but lord knows where he ends up

From your viewing, who would you compare But to? Stylistic comparison.</div></div>
This is a tough one and a good question. He's a little unique which is why I think (along with Russia aspect) his variance in draft slot is huge. He's not the shooter Thompson is and doesn't cut to the slot the same way. He doesn't quite have the footspeed of Alex Tuch. But I see him kind of in the middle, a really strong all around game (pretty good skater, good shot, good distributor), but probably with better defensive instincts than either one. He's really pretty darn unique.

Post-Datsyuk Wings
Had to retain some of Ericsson's and Howard's salaries in order to dump them (more for Ericsson percentage-wise, especially after his horrible end to this season). Franzen a buyout. Mrazek, DDK, get big raises, slight raise for Sheahan and Marchenko. Okposo and Boedker getting big deals after good seasons, with Demers also making good money. Montoya getting older, signs for about what he was making last year. No Stamkos, as that's still highly unlikely for the Wings to pull off. Biggest addition probably Demers on the back end, offense very young but more well-rounded.
