Sabres trading down for D help

Created by: Bdn00707

Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2023

Description
No secret Sabres need top 4 RD. Was wondering if trading down and swapping picks was an option. I know it doesn't happen often and some of these teams might not even want to trade up. Buff could always add olofsson, picks as well to sweeten the deal. Basically looked at teams from pick 18 onwards. Im no expert by any means feel free to comment/criticize/discuss

Leaf should have no interest. NHL RHD are difficult to fine. Liljgeren at 1.4m, plays 18m a night is bargain.

True leafs are the one contender on this list to so moving up would probably not be there best move

I don't think people realize how important DeMelo is to WPG. He was our 2nd best defenceman behind Morrissey and they both pair great together. Unless someone really falls and it available at 13 who shouldn't be, I don't think WPG does this.

Murphy makes a lot of sense for Buffalo to pair one of the LHD kids and let them grow. This trade of moving from 19 to 13 has the value equivalent of #61OA pick which would not be enough to move Murphy. Murphy value to the Hawks is probably more like a late 1st and a small sweetner. Isak Rosen in the piece that makes sense for Murphy. Sabres have lots of players blocking NHL wing roster spots and also have other prospect options if they move Rosen. Rosen + Bryson (cap/roster spot filler) + 2nd for Murphy + 3rd makes sense to both. If you are doing just picks for Murphy, it would need to look more like 13 + 39 for 19 and Murphy (Atlantic pick value chart nets the picks value out to the #26 OA).

Thanks for the feedback. Yea adding the second to the above trade would be a good move

This is realistic. Sabres are probably looking for high value or defender at 13. If player of their liking is not there, they may look for trading down, while getting that RHD. Pipeline of talent looks superb right now.

Smart deal with WPG. Demelo is a very good 2nd pairing D. He's smart, stable, a good mentor and can be played in most situations.

WPG has to free up some D spots for some upcoming kids and a slight bump up in the pick in the first round increases the Jets getting someone that will play in the NHL, so this works.

          WPG says... DEAL!

It hurts to move DeMelo but I’d do this to get up to 13 and ensure we draft a rhd or a c.
