That's a ton of money for JT. I know we have the cap space, but still seems like a few Mill too much.

I'd do that VAN trade. Hopefully they give Mitchell a better chance than we did.

Agreed, it feels like we failed Mitchell. Didn’t invest enough in trying to develop him. I have no problems overpaying a center in free agency, any one that can take some of the immediate pressure to produce offensively off of Bedard is welcome. Guess it just depends on what Compher is looking for at this stage of his career, $ or winning.

I don’t like the term on the JT deal. One year at that AAV is fine.

They're likely going to overpay, whether it's a Compher or a Domi in order to keep the term lower, and to also make sure they hit the cap floor. It also entices these players to leave teams that are Cup contenders.

I’ve ticked off my share of Nucks fans here, want to attempt a different approach. Do you think the Nucks have to cap dump someone? If so who do you think they should dump? I’m particular interested in a discussion about forwards. I think Myers’s & OEL have outlived their usefulness. Not trying to offend just being honest.

Canucks desperately need to get cap space and I think Tocchet won't want to lose Garland, and Myers is a tougher sell until the deadline IMO. OEL is a non-starter for any team in the league; they're stuck with him unless they do a buyout, which their owner will not do. In this proposed deal, Canucks only drop 8 spots, yet pick up a 2nd round pick, which they currently don't have in a great draft, and pick up $6.65M in space. They also get a RD prospect, which they need, who doesn't fit any longer in Chicago. Hawks can stay put at 19 and get their guy anyway, but would take on Boeser's overpay to help make the cap floor and make sure they get who they like at 11.

FYI when you are responding to someone hit the quote button or they won't get a notification.

As for your theory on overpaying, that's not entirely accurate. Ryan Strome was projected to get 7M last year and ended up getting 5x5 with Anaheim.

I think if Strome signed for 3 years instead of 5, his cap number would have been closer to that 7M that was speculated. If the Hawks attack the UFA market, they are going to overpay to keep the term lower AND help hit the cap floor. Maybe they don't bring any quality UFAs in this year, and save the money for an outstanding crop of UFAs in 2024.

it shouldn't take that much to move Myers on his own, giving us the cap space to upgrade our roster, This deal just doesn't make sense for Vancouver we aren't moving a quality winger in Boeser to move down in a deep draft.

That's fine, if that's your opinion, but how do the Canucks get under the Cap, do you think? They are currently already over the cap and all the other teams see that, and there is a very short list of teams that can take on any player off the Canucks roster with any sort of salary. Could they send Garland instead? Sure, but IMO, the Canucks likely don't get back as much in return and isn't freeing up as much cap space. Plus, Tocchet wouldn't be happy losing Garland.

If we want to upgrade our roster we will have to dump Myers for sure, I think mostly Vancouver's cap issues are a bit overblown i really only see Myers and OEL as the two problem contracts in Vancouver imho

No Evolving Hockey projects for all amounts of term, even at 3 years they had him at over 6M

We'll see for sure, but the list of UFAs this summer is VERY weak. I could easily see teams overpay, and I outlined why the Hawks would do it.

The best option is to buyout OEL, but I will be SHOCKED if their owner did that. I don't even see any team trading for Myers unless the Canucks eat up to half of that salary, then what's the point? That leaves Boeser or Garland, and Boeser frees up the most without taking money back and brings back the most in return. Would you rather flip picks and just give up Garland? That's fine with me, but again, doesn't give the Canucks as much in return. Again, there are a very limited number of teams willing or able to take on a contract that helps the Canucks get cap space.

Myers after his bonus is ridiculously cheap so a team like Arizona can use him to get to the cap floor without having to pay many real dollars

We can place Poolman and Pearson on LTIR and be pretty close to being cap compliant on opening night.

Common misconception is that the Canucks are over the cap because people just look at the front page of CapFriendly, which doesn’t show things like LTIR. Pearson and Poolman going on LTIR Will free up nearly $6 mil in space, but that isn’t factored in since LTIR doesn’t exist in the offseason. With them on LTIR, Vancouver currently has around $5 mil in cap space with 13 forwards, 5 defensemen, and 1 goalie on the roster. All we have to do is call up Martin and resign Bear, and we’ve got a 21 man roster with about $2 mil in cap space.
