Same only change I'd make is York's contract I think he gets more and Frost/Cates a tiny bit less

Buffalo already has a 50 Point Center on the third line, making a third of the money that Hayes is. Why in the hell would they want to trade for him?

Don't think the avs will pay that for a winger, even though it seems like sort of a fine trade. Try something with Hayes to avs instead, there we have interest! Something aroung Girard or Toews against Hayes with50% retention and some assets and avs would be interested imo.

You have interest, I doubt the Avs still do. Their style of play has changed since they last tried to get Hayes and not in a way that benefits Hayes. The whole f.o should be fired if either Girard or Toews is traded for Hayes, even with max retention.

Exactly. The more I hear "Hayes to the Avs," the less I like it as a fit.

Avs reportedly checked in on Hayes at deadline. Our style of play hasnt changed so drastically in the last 4 months that he isn't a fit. He probably fits what the Avs want similarly to ROR. Now I would prefer ROR at 3x5.5. But if they can't get ROR back, I don't hate the idea of trading for Hayes. He is going to cost less than most of the other options that are talked about.

Got a source for that there Hayes trade? Fan posts and Seravelli making a hot take that they should look at him doesn't count.
Edit: He is in no way a comp to RoR aside from that they both play center.

Just the rumors that have gone around since late February that the Avs had checked back in on the price. No clue of its true or not.

And he's obviously not ROR. But he can give you some of the things ROR does. He provides just as much offense if not more than ROR. Not quite as good in the FO circle but good enough to be one of the better FO guys on the Avs. But if you can get a trade worked out for him that includes paying him less than what ROR is going to get, I think you can live with it. He is an upgrade over any option they had at 2C last season and comes with term. Ideally if they do trade for him, Newhook bumps him to 3C by the end of his contract.

So to be clear, there was no real connection between Hayes and the Avs in 2022-23. He's a good on paper trade target, I will give you that, but it's as far as it goes. Hayes doesn't have the complete game that RoR plays and I doubt if he'll pick that up in his 30s. It's really in the way and spaces that he produces would only work away from Rants and we all saw a better Rants away from Mack.
I just see a Hayes trade as a waste of assets on a guy who's speed/style doesn't fit the Avs and makes the top 6 weaker. Right or wrong, dude was scratched throughout the year.
