Take all the roster players except for Nylander out of that trade and then add some prospects and picks and I'll be fine with that deal

As a Leaf fan I would rather have one year of Nylander, at least three of Liljgren than a year of Pesce and Teravainen.

That and Pesce would probably just resign in Carolina after that year

Plan would be to lock in Pesce going forward. I agree it would make less sense if it’s just as rentals.

Liljegren is closer to Pesce than Turbo is to Nylander. Hard pass

We won't ever be able to get past the Pesce for Nylander nonsense will we? Nylander is worth so much more than Pesce. This has to stop

The Hurricanes are not going to trade roster players for anybody on the Leafs except Matthews so the only other way to make the trade work would be picks and prospects of which the Hurricanes have an okay supply of both

I don't think Pesce wouldn't sign in Toronto... he would probably go back south of the border to play whether it's back to Carolina or someplace new

Nylander is worth so much more than Pesce. In pure production for sure. I'd say that it's pretty much closer when you consider their contracts and the sweetheart deal that the Hurricanes have with Pesce

That's playing with fire "hoping for an extension". Beside Pesce will be nearly 30 when his new contract starts, he's an American, I just think it's better to have a known Liljgren...who doesn't get even respect on CF IMO. Nylander and Teravainen is a big gap on the ice now.

A grabbag of leftover magic beans is not going to make your 6 million dollar goalie problem disappear. You'll have to actually give up an asset with at least a twinge of painfulness to make Murray disappear completely.

He has a fair contract, not a great one. He's worth what he gets paid and nothing more. Nylander is paid significantly less than he's worth.

Pesce is worth more like $5.5-6m than the current $4m he's getting.

Ah yes, the "we lost a bit later than you did so that isn't a disappointment" routine. The current core of Carolina hasn't won anything and just got swept by Florida. That's so much better. I guess TO should give you Nylander or Matthews for nothing eh? What a joke

Why? Because sometimes he plays with Slavin and has really fancy advance stats due to the system he plays in? He's a good defenceman but he's nothing special. He's like Brodie, not flashy but does a good job. If he made 5 million that would be fine. Nylander is worth twice Pesce because he's hands down way better and more valuable.

The current core of Carolina hasn't won anything- We've won 3 straight division crowns and won a playoff round in 4 out of the last 5 years including two trips to the ECF.
We're not asking you to give up Nylander or Matthews for nothing we're just not going to let you fleece us

Burns plays with Slavin... Pesce plays with Skjei
Pesce is a lot like Slavin in that he's a very good defensive defenseman but not much of an offensive defenseman

How many eastern conference finals games did you win? Oh right none. You won as many 3rd round games as TO did

We've at least made it that far... you guys haven't come close to the ECF since 04'
The Hurricane's roster is a lot closer to a Stanley Cup than the Leafs are

That’s your opinion but I don’t see how the canes are any closer than the Leafs. Atlantic is a tougher division (last five years, an Atlantic team has won the ECF) and the leafs have lost to the team that went to the final - often the same team that beat you or beat the team that beat you. But we’re splitting hairs, neither team has found playoff success - implying the Canes somehow have is ridiculous. You just got swept.

My point is that the one piece the hurricanes need is a pure goal scorer meanwhile it seems like the Leafs could use a reworking of their D-Core and Bottom Six... but I might totally be wrong

Slavin is your best defenceman, he's top 5 in the NHL. Pesce is good but he's not as good as you guys think he is.
