You already have Levi and while I agree that getting another goalie to shelter him for a little bit is a good idea - I feel like spending this much of your capital to do so would be inefficient. There are cheaper options available for you

I've always liked Garland as a player since his Coyote days and his style of play as a 5x5 possession driver and worker bee with great skating fits the Sabres' system.......but, sadly, him being traded to Buffalo will never happen when they have Savoie (a similar smaller player with endless motor but better offensive skills) and intend to keep Greenway at Granato's urging.

With Landeskog out for the season, Colorado has over $13,000,000 for the summer. Sakic would easily match that offer sheet on Alex Newhook.

And that offer alone doesn't get you Connor Hellebuyck.

You're out to lunch. Hellebuyck isn't getting the 13th overall pick and a recently drafted 14th overall player. Way too much. Try next years first, Krebs, and UPL. Either that or Buffalo could just wait and see if he walks to FA.

The Newhook comment is completely fair, and it makes sense, I wouldn’t expect an offer sheet to come that cheap.

The Hellebuyck offer however is more than fair. Hellebuyck has a 1 year contract and is essentially a high end rental goalie. This package is 13 OA, a former 13 OA that hasn’t decreased his value, and a young goalie that has shown some promise in his rookie season. This package is more than double what any goalie trade has gotten in the past decade. Hellebuyck is also a top 10 most expensive goalie contract right now, which doesn’t help his value (obviously though, he is worth every penny contract wise).

The 13 OA pick is a good start. But let's face it UPL has been mediocre at best and Rosen is a solid prospect. Just think that other teams that go after Hellebuyck can offer more.

They could offer more, but I don’t think they will. Goalies are so fickle, they can be great one year, mediocre the next, or they could be elite in one system and average in the next. 13 OA is already more than a goalie has recieved in the past decade. I wouldn’t want this trade aw I think it is paying too much already.

Oh I agree. The market can decide, I mean who is paying more than- 13oa in a very good draft, a recent 14oa coming off of a nice ahl season, and a big young goalie who has yet to establish himself? For a year of a top 3 goalie? I suppose you could try to make the case that he could sign an extension, but that extension probably looks like bobs contract, so nobody is dying to pay for that privilege.
