More competitive and still rebuilding

Created by: bettercallpaul
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2023
Published: Jun. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Without a real 2c, this Team will continue to be too crappy to make the playoffs but not crappy enough for the high picks we need. Add the 2c for our boston pick, and if scheifele doesn’t work out then we can move him for another ‘24 1st. Losing berggren sucks but we have plenty of replacements.

Pionk gives a real partner for edvinsson

Moving the ‘24 1st for 4OA and drafting Carlsson for a real 1c in the future to head up Larkin and Kasper.

Do you have a specific person they will pick with 4?

Carlsson. That way they get a legit 1C in the future.

I cant see sj moving out of 4, Smith or Carlsson or Michkov is just too good a situation. I can't see yzerman wanting to pay scheifele and if they won't extend him what's the point of giving assets for him. Bert isnt coming back they couldn't agree on contracts when he was a wing it's not going to change now after his playoffs.

Not bad but SJ would want the 2023 nyi pick over 2024 1st I'd imagine and prob still not enough

We’ll if he’s not extended then he can be traded for similar assets. I think Yzerman needs to make moves to be competitive and at least with sheifele those costs can be recouped if it doesn’t work out.

I think bertuzzi’s extension negotiations were an exceptional circumstance. the only reason bert wasn’t extended was because his next contract’s value truly is such a big question mark. Either way I think Yzerman will sign a similar player to a similar contract if it’s not bertuzzi.

As for the sharks pick, I think you’re right, but Im being wishful.

As a Jets fan, I would consider it. That Boston 1st is a real wild card. They could win the cup or be in the bottom half of teams. All depends on if some of their guys retire or not.

While the first is nice, it is extremely unlikely the Jets trade one of two top 4 RHD they have for yet another LHD they have no use for. Or, that they trade a 1C for a left shot winger on the small side.

You'd need to offer pieces that fill needs or plug holes for the Jets as opposed to just giving them more of what they already have plenty of.

You’re probably right IF the jets choose not to rebuild. If they do want to tear down, then they’ll take whatever offer has the highest market value. I don’t think Chevy will be picky about good young players’ handedness if they’re not trying to be competitive.

That is overpay to a player who, even if worth this much, will be a rental.
Underpay for 4, but i think we should definitely look at 9+17+.

We add earliest of 2nd and a 4th and maybe get a 3rd?

SJ holds all the cards here. The opportunity to draft a franchise changer like Michkov or possibly Carlsson and even Smith would be our #1 prospect right away. Your offer is lacking.

Fair fair. Name your price rather than leaving an empty space.

I wouldnt. That pick should never be traded unless the offer is insane.

If a good deal for an extension isn’t in place by TDL then he can be traded to get that ‘24 1st right back no problem.

I'm on Detroit's end. Wouldn't give much more than that otherwise you're looking at being able to get Kyle Connor lol

That Boston '24 pick looks to be in the 11-19 range next year. If it's lower, we get an unprotected '25.
Schiefele is 31 and bound to recess. He's also a taint.

the value of pick 17 in ‘23 isn’t really that much different than DET’s 1st in ‘24, especially if it’s not lottery protected.

I just don’t see any promise in just letting the years go by with middling picks and no hopes for playoffs. Scheifele moves the needle, has flexibility to be moved for the same pick, and i think he’s tight with Copp so maybe Yzerman likes taints?

I can assure you that Mark Scheifele would only bring this team from a wildcard hopeful to a wildcard contender.
Then he starts to stink due to age as do all players. I don't think this team can do **** in the next two years considering the holes at center, wing, RHD, and goalie. Fixing the 2C doesn't fix all of these other issues.

If I’m SJ I definitely want detroits first in 24 rather than Boston. Wings were a bottom 5 team after the trade deadline and will be awful next year unless they bring in lots of talent

Pick to SJ has always been DET. The questions is what’s more valuable, 17 this year or unprotected DET pick next year.
