Description

What's wheeler worth?
He has 1 year at 8.25m for 1 last year and has a 5 team trade list. He could block trades to not those 5 teams but could have a better chance to have playoff. He still a good 50-60 point winger that can play a good playmaking role while 6'5.

Yes he has the leadership concerns and is valid but going to a new team where he doesn't have to be that kind of player in the room. It's not for a long time and could be useful if he can go to a team with a great captain.

I picked 5 teams that may not be his 5 team trade list but maybe takes a shot at him. So what is he worth and the difference between 50% retained or not. Definitely not expecting a boat load return but also he does have some value and would still be a good player on some teams.

At 50% retained he has to be worth a mid-round pick (3rd-4th) or a solid prospect. Just thinking about the Pens and them still wanting to contend. What about Wheeler 50% for Granlund and 14? They want to move Granlund. Maybe you can't get 14 so instead a 2nd and prospect.

IMO, he'd have to go somewhere with a very strong leadership group as he seems to be one of the main problems in WPG. At 50%, maybe a 2nd, maybe a 2nd + prospect

Then nope. At 50% the jets are likely able to get something back albeit might not be a lot

If the Jets have to retain then they will need something back. They won't retain and send an asset with him, they would rather just let him ride out the contract in WPG.

Pittsburgh would be a great spot with crosby but I doubt they want to get older

IMO, Wheeler is worth a 2nd round pick if Winnipeg retains half his salary.

Like I said I just guessed 5 teams that "could maybe use him" It's not me saying it should happen. Just Imagine it's Pittsburgh instead then lol

I don't see them as a fit. They already got some vets like Copp and Perron. They are building something great and don't need a wheeler.

I dont know about that. Of course they want to get younger... but Dubas said they want to contend until Crosby, Malkin, and Letang are retired.

Jets fans were mocking a Horquvist for Wheeler swap last offseason. I think Minny, Fla, Pit, Col, and Car are the 5. I am sure he would be open to more than 5 teams if they are contenders.

Wheeler is worth nothing imo, there isn't much interest in him across the league, if any team does trade for him the asset the Jets get back will be for the retention, not the player.

Poor Blake Wheeler. All he did was outperform expectations for years with Winnipeg while being a good captain. Now that he’s aging Jets fans have turned on him. He should be kept and his number should be raised to the rafters one day. Very under-rated player. Just don’t expect him at his age to lead the league.

Guy has 922 points and has played over 1000 games. He’s in the final year of his deal. Let him play it out and sign him to a team friendly deal and watch him get 1000 points. Teams underestimate the power of legacy.

Yep so wheeler at 50% retained definitely gets the value from the more affordable price but I feel like there is a part that is the player. 36 years old still getting 50+ points has some sort of value

Wheeler is a hard one to put a value on. He's still good but there's a lot of smoke out there about him being a locker room cancer... and no one willingly tries to get cancer. I think he stays in WPG and if he's still playing well some team will pay a 2nd or 3rd for him at the deadline.

The Jets will most likely have to buyout Wheeler. If they can get any pick for him and retain on him, it's a HUGE win for WPG.

If Wheeler goes somewhere else, he's a useful plug into RW or C when needed, but can't play more than 12 - 15 minutes a game and CANNOT be on in crucial situations against fast players.
