Whether Nylander agrees to an extension after a trade is irrelevant to his trade value. Simply put 1 year of Nylander does not return Byram

That is not quite true if it is a sign and trade then it very much effects his value.

Avs say no. A young stud with 1D written all over him is worth a lot more than a wing, even one that scores a decent number of goals.

There have only been 2 sign and trades in NHL history and neither involved a pending UFA so good luck convincing Colorado they should trade for him pre-signed when there is zero benefit to doing so

The Avs should be a lot more interested in Byram long-term at, say, $7.5M than they would be in Nylander at $9M.

I can see it happening but more unlikely this happens than not.

Biggest issue with Byram is his health.
