Ducks Offseason Predictions

Created by: SnowCat
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Draft - With the 2nd Overall pick, I think the Ducks should take Adam Fantilli for obvious reasons. I don't know if he starts in the NHL next year because I don't anticipate Anaheim trying to win next year but he has the skill to do so.

John Gibson to Pittsburgh - With Jarry likely walking in FA, Pittsburgh needs a goalie and I think John Gibson is the right fit. We know he has requested a trade out of Anaheim so they've lost most of their leverage, however, Anaheim gets some young players and picks. They also take Maxime Comtois as it seems the Ducks will move on from this summer.

Anaheim will likely be one of the teams at the bottom next year to nobody's surprise. They have assets like Silfverberg and Henrique that could go at the deadline and could possibly set themselves to be competitive in 2024/25.

I will be doing predictions for every team before July 1st, and this same trade with Pittsburgh will be used there.

Back in April, Hallander signed a four-season contract with his home club in Sweden.

I can see us trading Comtois for Smith.

I can't see Pittsburgh paying $25.6 million for four seasons of goaltending from a veteran worth only a future second, inasmuch as the Penguins could probably get Lukas Dostal or Daniel Vladar for that same second and save themselves $22 million or so.

Finally a trade that shows Gibsons actual calue. However i doubt Ducks will settle for just that even though it's a more than fair offer

I'd like to know how you plan to add 9M in salary and still be under the cap.

For starters, we don't "know" sh*t. All of the trade speculation comes from DFO where Seravalli burried a comment in his off-season trade targets, the comment was "He's open to a change of scenery". If Gibson had actually asked, or demanded, a trade, it would be headline news, not buried 10th in an article in a 5 sentence blurb. Every article since then is piggybacking off Seravalli. There was a rumor last season he'd asked for a trade, and it came out from Gibson and his agent that that was fake news. This again feels like the hockey pundits trying to will a trade into existence so they have something to write about, and Frank is trying to be first on the button. Why hasn't there been a rebuttal yet from Gibson or his agent? The Ducks announced their new HC today, they probably want to let him have the news cycle and not be overshadowed by yet another Gibson trade rumor.

Secondly, even if he did ask the front office for a change of scenery, we've lost no leverage. He isn't a pending UFA, he's on his lockup contract and we have years of control of his services left. This isn't like Nylander or Matthews and the leafs who are pending UFAs that need to be signed or traded for as much as possible ASAP.

Third, this offer doesn't get it done.
