Description
PHI trade: Trade is based on others posting 17oa + VAN 2nd + Zadina for TK, so I'm valuing Hart as 24 1st (BOS) + 25 2nd + Fabbri. Thoughts?

VAN trade: Was going to do Myers + 11oa for Kubalik + 2nd but decided to try adding Garland to see what the feedback is.

I highly doubt VAN is willing to move this year's first just for 1 year of Myers....would be nice though.

The thinking here in my opinion is a 1st and 2nd for each and then zadina and fabbri for each. I think TK's value is around the 1st and 2nd and Zadina as a reclamation project. However, Fabbri and a 1st and 2nd for Hart is not quite the value I'd be looking for for Hart. I think to trade Hart, some team will need to overpay - which in and of itself may be impossible because historically goalie trades don't offer the value you want. Maybe Schneider for the 7th overall several years ago, but you usually don't see it.

This is why I'm in the group of people that think no way Hart is traded. Only way is if a GM completely overpays. Like if Stevie Y included another 1st or Wallinder, it would be tough to walk away. Or if EDM offered their 1st and 2nds over the next 3 years (two 1sts and two 2nds), Bouchard, Yamamoto, and Bourgault. Or like AZ offering 3 firsts and Cooley. Like these deals would never happen, and we're not giving him up for any less than an amazing value, so I don't think it's gonna happen IMO.

I see what you're saying, and I agree that none of those will happen. Historically, goalies have very little trade value. Even Hasek, when traded to Detroit, was worth a late 1st (30oa) + Kozlov (at the time a 28yo middle six forward). Other examples...

- Husso traded for a 3rd
- Vanecek + #46 for #37 + 3rd
- Grubauer + Orpik dump = 2nd
- Bobrovsky = 2nd + 2nd + 4th

Bob is probably the best comparable for Hart, as this was during his ELC before signing any high-AAV contracts. I think getting a 1st + is a very big deal for a goalie, just based on history (not that I agree with it!).

Exactly. And although I think it behooves Philly to stockpile as many assets as they can, the goal eventually is to compete. And you need a franchise goalie that can carry you in order to do that. I believe we've already found that in Hart. And when we are ready to get out of this rebuild in 2-3 years, he will be entering his prime.

It seems counter-intuitive to me to trade a known substance that we have and then hope and pray that some of those assets we get, just turns into what we already have, albeit a few years younger. That is the definition of stupid to me.
