Philly trade would probably have to be a 3 way cuz they don’t have interest in Chabot. Detroit trade prob replace a 2nd with a meh prospect

I feel like a broken record.
Why does Detroit pay more for a player who got worse and more expensive?

MrGilmour, I do not see a world where Red Wings give up 9OA for DeBrincat.
I understand he was acquired with a 7OA, but I, and many other fans, agree that the '23 draft is a much better/deeper draft than '22 was.

2 time 40 goal guy, eligible to sign a long extension, and you guys think these are negatives? IF he is willing to sign with whoever he gets traded too, he will easily fetch a 1st, 2nd etc. just imo

He achieved both of those 40 goals with Kane. He hasn't proven he can hit it without one of the greatest playmakers of the NHL.
What's a negative is that he is going to get more expensive contract wise, and the fact that he didn't break 30 goals this season.
Furthermore, this is still more than what you paid. I take Leonard/Benson/Moore over Korchinski/Savoie every day of the week.
I would take those guys maybe 14-15 this year based on D0.

I'd be fine giving up 17 + a 2nd, but at 9OA, with these players, you don't hope the guy you draft is a DeBrincat quality player, but you expect him to be.

Fair enough. I think it’s too ballsy for DET to pass up debrincat for 8 slots in the draft, when they have been **** for a long time and probably want to win sooner rather than later.

Let's be realistic here.

He was 63rd this year in goals with 27.
He was 72nd this year in points with 66.
He had the 2nd worst +/- on his team with -31.
He's an RFA that can walk in a year.
Wants a huge contract extension.

We've already seen what Cat fetches coming off a great year + with another year on his contract. That was a 7th + 39th in not a great draft. Now add all those things to the mix. It's going to be way less than a top 10 pick.

If by 1st, you mean late 1st sure.

Maybe a pick in the 20s + a meh prospect.

Not many are, no, but I understand you gotta give to get. It's a direct upgrade. I like Berggren and do think he will be much better, but he's not anything special; a dime-a-dozen type of player.

I mean we've sucked, but we've really only been rebuilding since a year after Yzerman's arrival. His first year was spent tearing down Holland's mess.

Yeah, i just think Debrincat fits in with the guys Yzerman signed last summer (copp etc) but you’re right, he didn’t trade high picks for those veterans.
