As you seem to view Bouchard as either a 1RD currently or soon-to-be 1RD, you should understand that there's not a team in the league that would trade a young 1RD for a goalie- especially not a "franchise goalie" whose contract is set to expire and whose numbers hardly inspire confidence. If you switched Skinner out for Campbell, you'd be closer but, put simply, Bouchard is a non-starter. I'll give you credit for at least considering EDM's cap situation.

Honestly I thought Nurse was right handed and that with his cap hit Bouchard would never overtake him on the top pair . So that’s on me for not looking more closely. With all of that said and now realized, you’re right , it is unlikely that they will trade him. As far as Hart, he still has one more year on his contract and then would still be a RFA, so under team control. Your argument would be the same for Bouchard who’s contract did actually just expire and will need a new one.

No worries!

My point was more that for a goalie to come close in value to a young 1RD (current or soon-to-be), he'd have to be incredibly consistent year-to-year and have cost certainty. Even if I grant the former under the assumption that he'll continue to bounceback (no guarantee with goalies), he would likely end up needing a healthy raise next offseason as he'll be a goalie playing behind a team aiming to contend. Meanwhile, chances are high that EDM already has a good idea of what Bouch's new contract will look like for the rest of the current McDrai window (likely a 2 or 3-yr bridge deal).

Agreed. But they could probably even take out Zadina and replace him with Sebrango or Hanas

Faksa to Laughton is a lateral move for Dallas and it costs almost the exact same in terms of cap. Dallas isn't trading away Bourque just to save $250K

I don’t think it’s a lateral move at all. Faksa has declined the last 3 years and only scored 20 points last year. Laughton on the other hand set a career high of 43 points and was a leader and significant contributor on Canadas team this year. He’s a very effective player who can play up and down the lineup in any role. Faksa is declining and will be at best a 3rd liner to finish out his contract

Faksa isn't supposed to putting up points. He's purely a defensive center. Shoot, he starts over 60% of his shifts in his own end of the rink. His sole task is to shutdown opposing top lines. Stars don't really care if he's lighting up the scoresheet as long as he's able to keep other teams off of it. Had a rough year during the 2021-2022 season, but bounced back very well under DeBoer this year.

Not saying he's untouchable on the trade market or anything, but he's not a "cap dump" like he was at this point last year. He holds value as a good bottom-6, shutdown center that can eat a ton of time on the PK and excels in the faceoff circle.

Sure Laughton would provide more offense for Dallas, but tbh offense isn't really a NEED for them this offseason. They need to upgrade the defensive side of their game and swapping Faksa for Laughton would be counterproductive, especially if they have to give up one of their top prospects, who just had a very good rookie year in the AHL.

Fair enough but Laughton does all of what you say Faksa is tasked with and does it better except for face offs. Faksa has like a 1.7% better average for his career. But you’re right, It’s probably not the right deal for these guys

I like Hanas. I think he has potential to have a Fabbri type career(minus the injuries hopefully)

These Carter Hart proposals are a joke! Getting Sharks 4th OA, Evan Bouchard etc. get a grip on reality. Hes an overhyped goalie that has done nothing but put up average numbers for five years!

Stats easily lie lol, stats are only numeric and don’t take into account any factors that aren’t numeric. Hart has put up above average numbers most years on one of the worst teams in the league lol
