Let's call Jones for Drury a wash, Lafreniere is worth more than Honka and 30th OA

It's crazy how almost all teams want laf but they want to pay garbage because "he's a bust"... then why do you want him?

They think they can turn him into elite Lw, problem with that logic is, it is not lowest bid wins, it is highest. They seemed to lost that fact. And if he is offersheeted he will sign the highest offersheet. But better to be quiet about that, might hurt their brains. grin

I don't think he's a bust, maybe other people do but I think his development was poorly coordinated and he's under utilized, but still has the potential to be a very good player. Maybe the offer is a little bit on the lighter side so adding an additional prospect or draft pick might balance out the deal. It gives the Rags a young center who can also slot out on the wing and play in the middle-six, a late first, and a very offensive defenseman who was a .5ppg AHL player in his first year coming to NA and who will continue to improve upon that number while also giving the Rags more defensive depth in their prospect pool as they have a single defensive prospect signed currently. Again maybe the Canes would need to add a bit more to sweeten the trade as well.

Pure nonsense.

No, it's not... just look at KK and Jalen Chatfield both of whom were developed under the Hurricanes after their previous teams did not develop them properly

This is the correct response- the rest of this development stuff is all irrelevant because we will never know.

You aren’t getting a former 1 Overall pick for some spare parts and a modest bridge deal.

If you want him - step up an offer that works or just offersheet at $6.435m x 2 and call it a wash.

LOL. Sure, they are the best. Take Laffy over KK every day of the week. Bottom line, Canes want him but can't have him. Live with it.

So the Rangers trade their former #1OA who put up 40 points, basically all at ES and on 3rd line ice time to divisional rival for substantially less than Kirby Dach was traded for last year....

Hahahaha... KK is a very good defensive forward and analytics suggest he's worth about $4m more than Laf... so what are you smoking?

KK is a 3C at BEST and Laffy's numbers are better than his at the same age, which you already know. Keep dreaming and loving your way overpaid 3C. Ranger will be happy keeping Laffy. LMFAO

No KK is a good 2C... he puts a 1/2 a point a game while being a very good defensive center. If Laf is so good then how come he's a 3rd-Line winger on a team that's a tier below the team that KK is on.

LOL. 3C at BEST. Laffy is already better and will just continue to get better and that's why Cane fans want him. Keep dreaming.

There is no way that Laf is better than KK... I'm interested in Laffy as a reclamation project who can be significantly improved under one of the best coaches in the league in RBA and the Hurricanes who have proven that they are very good at developing talent... just look at Kocketkov and most of the top 6

Think of Laf as lowly as you want, bottom line is it makes no sense for the Rangers to trade him, you're not gonna be able to buy low on him based on what you think he's worth, the Rangers would just rather keep him since he's a cost controlled winger. If you really want Laf you're gonna have to make this deal make sense for the Rangers with a pretty heavy overpay, that's the only thing that'll gouge Drury's interest.

I mean a $4.5m/5 years offer sheet is just low enough to not screw the Hurricanes cap for the long term while also being too much for the Rangers given their cap situation. I've never been in favor of trading for him... I've always been more in the camp of just forcing the ranger's hand by offer-sheeting him and not trying to negotiate with Drury.

Yeah that'd probably be enough to pry Laf out of their hands, granted offer sheets are already very rare so that's not something you should count on the Canes GM doing.

I mean that's how we got KK... and we have enough cap to match any offer sheet down the road... I think they need to be cautiously aggressive this offseason.

Oh yeah its def the right move to offersheet Laf, but it's also probably not happening.

Every GM in the NHL takes Laffy over KK if the money is the same. Every one.

Maybe based on pure talent but not based on production
