    Definitely a big no to the Karlsson deal. Nylander only makes sense if he's going to be here for a very long time. There's no chance in hell San Jose convinces him to extend with us without him first testing the waters in a free agency year that promises to be absolutely bonkers.

    We can't trade EK65, 5.5m in cap space over 4 years, a really good young forward and two good picks for a shot at one year of Nylander during which we're going to suck regardless.

    I think they can as long as there is something else also in the deal... just eliminates the retention slot.... till they decide to use it again lol

    If a team retains salary on a trade, they cannot reacquire that player for one year from the date of the transaction, unless the contract ends prior to one year.

    That usually applies only to prevent cap circumvention. In this case, it wouldn't be cap circumvention, because TOR isn't retaining. But, the rule about 1 year might still apply, I guess.
