I think the Hawks would do this but I think Vancouver fans will push back on this proposal.

Every proposal that is sent as a "cap dump" most all Canucks fans shoot down. Cap Dumps hurt they are no fun and the only thing you really get back in the "deal" is cap relief. Hawks fans know this all too well.

Even if every player on the Canucks is worth every penny of their contract they still have to shed salary. In order to do that oftentimes you have to painfully send a talented player(s) or valuable pick out the door in order to achieve the simple objective of being under the NHL salary cap. It's very much a buyer's market when you are trying to get out from behind the rock and a hard place.

I hear you loud and clear. Bickell, Sharp, Panarin, etc... Very long list of Hawks cap casualties. We know it better than any franchise. BUT VAN does have a couple of things in their favor that shouldn't make it too difficult to get under the cap. TMyers has a signing bonus due. Once paid, he's only owed $1M after that. Depending on his NTC...that shouldn't be too hard to move. Poolman/Pearson are LTIR. If push came to shove they could go the route of Seabs. Do an offseason LTIR. That would be painful for any in-season trade or TDL move....but let's not kid each other.

All of that maneuvering while could get them cap compliant...won't make them a better team. THIS is the part most people don't factor in. VAN needs to add imo ~4-5 pieces (maybe more tbh) to be contending. They likely can't add even 1 of them without dumping cap space.

What VAN should be doing (In this man's opinion) is wait 1 year. Trade anything/everything you can at the TDL that's short term. Get Cap Compliant. Draft someone at #11. Don't go for the short term fix. Just build it.

there are other ways to shed cap space than to significantly loose a trade.

In fairness, the Hawks should send one of their 2nd rounders back like the #44 or #51 pick along with the #19 as well.
