Why are the sabres paying a 2nd rounder to be worse than last year. Did we rehire Botterill or something?

hes got really good underlying numbers and put up 13 goals/28 pts. He's making slightly more than okposo who had significantly worse possession numbers than Foegele did.

I can appreciate the Clifton signing to an extent but moving Kulak out (and to an extent Ceci even) seems like terrible asset management. Likewise, I doubt Soucy signs for so little: if the hype train surrounding him on this forum is to be believed, his next deal starts in the $4M range. Kulak is a fantastic defenceman and it's within the Oilers best interest to not move him unless they absolutely have to this summer. The market to replace Ceci is not good this year: none of the FA options, Clifton included, can meet the TOI that Ceci fills at the same success rate as Mr. Cody Ceci. Severson is off the market, Dumba is a husk of what he once was. Mayfield is a maybe, but is going to cost more, and Clifton has never played more than bottom-pairing minutes.

If the Oilers are going to upgrade on Ceci, it will be via trade, and the earliest it happens (unless San Jose just willingly gives us Karlsson) is the 2024 deadline.

Guentzel would be a great add but Pittsburgh likely doesn't have want for another LHD prospect and the Edmonton faithful are unlikely to approve of moving Kostin this offseason. Bourgault would be the preferred option for the Penguins.

Foegele maybe returns a 6th on his own: Bettman deciding on the $1M raise to the cap puts teams looking to shed cap into the same dismal situation that they've been in for the past three seasons. His recent injury is also going to make him very hard to move. Like Kulak, I'd like to see what he does in a more consistent third line role with McLeod before committing to moving him (unless it absolutely has to happen for cap reasons) as the duo has very strong underlying numbers. I think we'd see more production out of the two of them if the coaching staff would quit riding the top six into the ground every chance they got.

Okposo was better defensively and that's his role. Foegle is only worth it for the sabres if they are getting paid to take him.

Lmao the second bit isnt true at all. Look up Foegele's numbers first before making that claim.

I wouldn't be against Foegele as a potential replacement for Girgensons if he decides to move on from the Sabres. Not a lot of reason to compare him to Okposo since Okie is a RW and Foegele is a LW, the comparison would be Gus in my view.

Problem with that is you don't have a center. You do have Greenway, okposo, and foegele as wingers that should be limited to 4th line. First off, we don't want any part of ceci, and Foegele should only cost a late round pick. The Sabres have kinda committed to okposo and Greenway, I just don't see an obvious spot for foegele right now.

I don't believe they acquired Greenway to play on the 4th line. He's a guy who on the 3rd line can help create space with his size and playstyle and Granato believing he can get more out of him tells me he's not intended for a 4th line role. Also Krebs worked quite well as the 4C and playing the cycle game with heavy forechecking the way Gus and Okposo played really helped his game along, he started making less mistakes and was effective in that role. Maybe he's not meant for that role long term, but in the short term it's getting his development back on track. Remember Don doesn't role lines in a traditional manner, so being on the 4th line doesn't necessarily mean they will always play the fewest minutes.
