My offseason wish list

Created by: AG_sweden
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 13, 2023
Published: Jun. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- yes please Drury. Something like this if I may...
- we are not getting rid of Panarin so might as well get players that can make him look good. By doing what he can't. Defensive and forechecking to name a few.
- don't want to let go of Lindgren but also don't want him to be 3rd pair d man either.

I think COL rather move Girard for Chytil, I think Toews is overpay even though they may not be able to afford his extension.

I'm not interested in Girard, I can add more to the trade. And Toews proven he can play with elite offensive minded d man in Makar. Hopefully he can do the same with Fox. Also with both Kreider and Trouba getting modified no move clause after that season there is a chance to keep Toews if things work out. If not then we have cap to resign Kakko for example.

Again, you can add, but Toews is likely not available. You don't trade top pair D men for a 2/3C.

Avs decline. They'd probably move Girard for Chytil but you'd be adding significantly if you want Toews.

Sabres are probably not moving Johnson after signing him 2 weeks ago

Well for a top 4 physical d man they might in his prime... But can accept a forward prospect too.

yeah, you're gonna have to move a lot more for Toews. Nylander for Toews is being floated around here, it's gonna need to be a pretty big package.

well no cause that would be incredibly bad player relations to sign a guy right before FA and then deal him. I cant see them being interested in lindgren. They like Jokiharju a lot, this would cut his minutes,

I did this trade based on feedback from earlier trade proposals. Main issue I have with Girard trade is again lack of cap flexibility. How about Chytil and 2023 first?

Yeah I agree. But Chytil is ready for 2C role under very team friendly contract. But need to add to match that, I agree 👍

Laffy must be closer to his potential and value before it makes sense to move him, same with Kakko. Chance is really good that he would blossom under another system and coach and NYR would look even more foolish.

Besides, problem for me with Girard is contract goes beyond next year meaning it is back to cap crunch after this season again. I wanted some cap flexibility.

I think the Avs would have to seriously consider that. A lot probably depends on how confident they feel of realistically re-signing Toews in Colorado. I'm sure it may be one where Joe is kicking himself slightly for not locking DT up longer term.

Well you basically stole him from NYI. And the value you had on his contract is insane 😳 👏
A longer deal and you be charged for stealing. I have a option 2 that I like too of course. NYR keeps Chytil, buyout Goodrow and keep Lindgren. But we will see what happens 🙂

Yeah I don't think we can complain and hindsight is a very accurate science!!! One of the Avs fans on here, Richard88 I think, used to have a profile pic of Joe with a cheeky grin on his face like he'd just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Quite appropriate with some of the deals he made.

On the subject of Goodrow, you'd be paying him a long time (until 2031) but it's not all that significant once the cap starts to rise again. That said he's pretty much done what it said on the tin production wise. Nothing if not consistent especially with the drop in TOI. It's just that the Rangers have probably overpaid a bit for it. I would have thought that there would be at least be somebody who'd be in on him in a trade, even if with a small amount of retention. I'd be inclined to keep Lindgren & Chytil myself if I were a Rangers fan, but there's certainly going to have to be some wheeling and dealing somewhere.

Indeed, and it is NYR so pretty much anything can happen. But I think if they can't move Goodrow without retaining too much or pay too much to dump him, it makes sense to buy him out. The contract was designed with this is mind. Probably why he got almost 4 M too.
I think for next year they must focus on giving Chytil, Laffy and Kakko consistent top 6 min over winning. They need to be top 6 players ASAP if they are going to be cup contenders (or traded) secondly they simply don't have the cap to get veterans back, and with core made of older players still on NMC this is the only route that makes sense. But hey NYR, so not always the make sense path they decide to go.

Bring back Kane on a 2M deal to eventually play with Panarin. Neither can be expected to play defense and they really shouldn't. They just need to be paired with the right defensive C which is easier said than done.

For me it is either Kane or Panarin. Not both. I do like Kane more. He seems to care about winning more than bread. But since we signed this 11.6 M contract with Panarin and we sort of stuck with him I do not see a possible return of Kane.

Great hockey trade. Classic example of having to give something you don't really want to give to get something you really want/need. Sure- it's most likely that COL deals with their situation by finding a suitable deal involving Girard....but that suitable deal wont involve NYR if Chytil is involved. Can see Chytil REALLY finding traction as COL 2C- a spot they really need to improve (not knowing what to expect w/ Landy). And Toews could be a cornerstone Dman playing w/ Fox. Makes so much sense it probably wont happen!!
