Trading Toews sigh

Description
Assuming Toews signs an extension for Buffalo that the Avs cannot afford - He can play that same role with Dahlin as he did with Makar.

You have to give to get and Toews is a legit top-15 D-man in the league. The Avs don't want futures...they need players today.
Buffalo fans are going to say ... we got a million D prospects in the pipeline ... Toews is going to make everyone around him better and will be the anchor for the next 6-8 years.

Mittelstadt is projected as Buffalo's 3C, but his underlying numbers are really interesting. He is a top-5 assist per 60 guy. I would look at him at LW on which ever line Rantanen is on.

Fine, I'll trade for Hayes.

I would bring back Eller - ask him to mentor Meyers and see if Meyers can fill in at a C position full time.

I love a Hathaway type - Mean and can PK. Cogs & one Johnson (take your pick) come back.

After being corrected and converted by a BUF fan earlier this week and some further stats reviews, I'm buying Middlestadt as 2C tbh. Avs can find a better 2LW than hayes for the cost.

Avs had the highest % of minutes in the league of defensemen playing their off-hand, so that gives a ton of flexibility for D pairings imo. I'd be more interested in Oloffson retained than Stillman.

Adams wanted to trade for Chychrun, so I think it suits.

do you think Buffalo would take Girard plus a 1st instead of Toews? just playing out some permutations of this, i'm curious. With girard you get term.

I would not, because we don't need Girard, just not the right type of defenseman. Toews is much better on defense and on PK, he can easily eat minutes of the first pair.

A big IF, but if they find that Toews wants too much (say 8x8), he gets moved, right? And if so, where. I was thinking about younger forwards with term / a team that would be able to sign Toews. You have to admit Buffalo makes a lot of sense, no?

PS I hate the Hayes trade, but I am racking my brain trying to figure out a 2C at the right price that makes sense.

I was thinking of him at LW, but Middlestadt at 2C could be a legitimately interesting option...and an asset saver...then no need for the Hayes trade. I am going to have to go play around with that idea smile
