CBJ Slow and Steady

Created by: benjgc

Description
This is a patient, methodical approach toward opening night of this coming year. Let Carlsson and Voronkov adjust to North American ice in Cleveland, let Sillinger get his mojo back as a center in the AHL, and make full use of your remaining waiver-eligible players. Don't love using Boone at 1C, given his back issues, but absent a better option (O'Reilly?), I don't see the alternative.

I always value feedback on my AGMs. Thanks.

  1. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Roslovic, Jack
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
I feel like this makes sense for Colorado, who need to fill out their forward group, and could make good use of a middle-6 forward like Roslovic; they'd likely be able to get more out of him than Columbus has by sheltering his deployment. Meanwhile, Columbus adds a late 1st in this strong draft. Avs fans (or fans of other teams who want Roslovic for themselves), feel free to let me know how you feel about this one.

  1. 2024 2nd round pick (CGY)

  1. Bean, Jake
Additional Details:
Calgary gets their CEO's son, who happens to help fill out their D corps, while Columbus recoup a 2024 2nd after moving their own in the Provorov trade. Interested in feedback from Flames fans on value here; I know that Calgary would have to move someone else to add Bean's contract, though I suspect that's coming anyway (Vladar, most likely).

The Avs need more of a sure thing than a roll of the dice. If he's really cheap, then maybe. But if it costs a 1st, even with a pick coming back, it's a no imo.

That's a no from me for the Avs too. I'd rather they went after someone else if it's at the cost of a 1st.

That's fair! I think they're better positioned than most clubs to take a shot on Roslovic and his offensive gifts, especially with Landeskog on LTIR for the whole season. I could (very theoretically) see Columbus retaining in this deal, and/or adding another pick to help goose the value (maybe the Winnipeg 4th this year?). Still, I appreciate the feedback.

I wouldnt mind Roslovic if the price is right but I think there are way better options out there if the Avs are going to cough up a 2023 1st. Roslovic is already one of the weaker 2Cs the Avs could target so if the cost is that high I think they would look elsewhere

Appreciate the feedback! If Foudy hadn't endeared himself to Columbus management more recently, I think we'd see them try to reunite him with JLF in Denver for a mid-round pick. But Liam seems to have established himself as a valuable, low-cost 4th-liner who brings energy and can work on the PK.

I kinda envision them deploying him in a bottom-6 role, not so much as a 2C. He'd be a great fit as a 3C in their system, IMO.

If Colorado had more picks/prospects, I wouldn't be opposed to taking a shot on him. But the cupboard is so bare that they only have a couple darts to throw. They need to be very selective.

Do you think they'd be open to moving Sean Behrens, rather than upcoming picks, since they're already overstocked on the blue line? What would you consider fair value on Roslovic?

I don’t think either of these deals really make sense for the other teams involved.

1. Roslovic likely isn’t worth a 1st round pick, especially in a deep draft like the 2023 class. He’s been far too inconsistent and a career best 45 points just isn’t worth that much. I think the most Columbus would likely get would be similar to what Calgary got for Sam Bennett (late 2nd round pick and maybe a B- prospect), otherwise I don’t think teams will bite on the ask of a 1st rounder.

2. Outside of the family connection, Bean doesn’t fit into Calgary at all. They already have 4 guys that are NHL calibre and play the left side (Weegar, Kylington, Hanifin, and Zadorov) & they’re likely to move one of them because of the logjam. On top of that they also have guys for the right side with Andersson and Tanev, so that leaves Bean as maybe the third pairing right pair guy and that’s just not worth a 2nd round pick when the spot can be filled via free agency for much cheaper

Appreciate the feedback. My inclusion of the 2024 3rd was an attempt to reflect that Bennett-type value in terms of what would fetch Colorado's late-round 1st. And as for Calgary, I think one or more of those guys you mentioned gets moved (most likely Kylington, but I'm not nearly so knowledgeable on what's going on with the Flames), in addition to Vladar (most likely, again).

It depends on what their plan is with the D. If they're going to move Toews or Girard (or let the former walk in free agency), then I'd prefer to keep Behrens. That might be a fair trade, but Columbus is stocked at D all of a sudden, so not sure it makes sense.

Columbus is ready to go, bargain 1c stopgap and a bargain goalie to push that pair, or do anything but sell 3 oa to upgrade 1c and goalie. Option a option b

I think Behrens is the least likely of any of their prospects to be moved. They have only 2 D on the reserve list. Behrens and Romaine (I don't count Boikov as he's about a 0.000001% chance of ever donning an Avs sweater again). They pretty much did all they could do there when they moved Barron & Helleson. Roslovic is probably a 2nd plus prospect tops. Admittedly, the Avs don't have any until 2026 so I think that makes it even more of a non-starter. Maybe the Avs would do the '24 1st because of that though. As you mentioned above however, you see him as a 3C for the Avs. Trades like massive overpays for Jeannot aside, a third liner shouldn't be a guy you're spending a first on, even a late one.
