Happy Buyout Day

Description
I know the 4th line isn't sexy, but you've got to leave money for Jake's contract + the buyout penalty from Granlunds contract. These are all doable, I'm not sure how realistic that 2 year deal is from PLD, but it sets him up to get a big contract from Montreal and gives him a chance to play with Sid, who was his favorite player growing up. Montreal won't be competitive for a couple more years - so he needs a bridge somewhere.

CHI doesn't need help getting to the cap floor. I'm willing to entertain taking on a petry or Granlund, but not for only 5 spots in this draft.

You want to send BOTH Granlund and Petry. I'm ok with that too. Let's just make it a 2nd rounder to PIT.

I'm pretty sure PLD has a 6mil QO - so he's going to make at least that. Graves will get more as well.

Using the 14th overall pick to dump Petry just to replace him with Klingberg is not a move I would be interested in. But I guess you have to in this scenario to fit under the cap. Most of the UFA signings look good though. It's a solid overall team though - just have to hope PLD doesn't give us the Brassard treatment

As nice at that would be, there's no chance the Penguins are moving Petry and 14th overall to Chicago for a 2nd round pick. He's not a bust player, he's just net value and a luxury the Penguins can't afford.

Chicago will need help getting to the cap floor. Their either going to collect assets to do it, or be foolish and do it via the FA market by overspending and getting nothing for it.

The last thing San Jose needs is a 156th left Dman

It's not about whether a player has value for PIT, it's about getting below the cap and getting maneuvering room. Hawks fans lived this for years, and understand the pain.

Hawks will have zero problem hitting the cap floor. Easy, peasy... Here's the important thing for the Hawks: it's not about gaining a player who won't be around when they are competitive/relevant again for the Hawks, it's about gaining high draft picks and/or prospects who will be. Period, end of story. If we don't get as much as possible of THAT from a deal, then we likely won't make it. IMHO...

The penguins will have 25M~ in cap space after the granlund butout.....They're not worried about "getting below the cap"

Okay. Maybe there's not a deal to be had then... Any deal with the Hawks has to revolve around the merits of what picks/prospects we'll get in return, not a player who won't be around when the Hawks are relevant again. Cheers

Wasn't it reported that the Hawks would be taking on contracts? I don't think you're going to get many teams dumping contracts + A level prospects. It's just not worth it these days.
