I believe if the Canes ultimately end up trading Pesce, it will be in a swap for a top-6 big fish, not a package. Just my take.

The player you’re looking for isn’t available for those prices. They’re likely a key piece on a contending team.

Give Barbashev 5x5 in UFA instead.

The only way Pesce gets the Canes a first rnd pick or a top 6 player is if he comes with an extension.

Sure these are fine but only if you flip around and use the surplus in picks after to trade for durzi, Bouchard, or another 22-26 year old RHD. Jokiharju doesn’t move the needle much for me so would rather just take one of the Sabres young forwards and flip them for a D

Keep him and use him in a deal at the deadline if an extension isn't coming....unless someone offers up a top six goal scorer...but not seeing that happen right now

Haha I wouldn’t be so sure about that buddy. DAVID FING SAVARD fetched a 1st and a 3rd AT THE DEADLINE on an expiring deal. Pesce is easily worth a 1st and 2nd ++++ if that’s what savard got 2 years ago for CBJ

Canes aren’t moving him at the TDL. They either sign him now, trade him now or keep him for the season. They’ve already shown reluctance to bring in guys at the TDL and they’re not going to subtract a big piece in the middle of the season even if talent is coming back in. Contenders don’t move core pieces at the TDL typically and the canes are on the far end extreme of that.

Barb may get that but it is unlikely he ever reaches that value. He had 1 good playoff run. That is quite the overpay for one 20 game run.

my point is it's worth being patient to just see how it plays out...keeping him all year could make sense if it means winning the cup. Without an offer for a proven top 6 scorer, it's just worth being patient is my point

How so? Seems like the correct package if pesce comes with an extension

Yeah this is what happens when too many people take seriously the musings of one Pierre "Hot Air" LeBrun, who "links" Edmonton and Buffalo to Pesce. Half the league is probably in on Pesce. I don't see either of those teams as serious trade partners for the Canes and the full cavalcade of trade proposals in the last 24 hours shows why.

Lebrun is one of the more connected insiders when it comes to the canes.

Yeah I’m not moving him for scraps either. If they can extend him at a reasonable deal then go for it. If not, move him now as I’m sure there will be a long list of teams offering legit packages for him that can then be flipped for a top 6 F or top 4 D with control. If neither happens for whatever reason you’re just keeping him as your own rental and then getting a 3rd next summer for his right from some team like Severson just got.

I don't believe he has received any special inside information here at all. I have followed these guys and they 'guess' wrong more often than not. No one ever calls them out for it. They are just wondering most of the time and they do freely admit it. Neither Edmonton nor Buffalo make sense as trade partners for the Canes. The good news is that someone like Pesce is probably attracting attention from a LOT of teams. Make no mistake. Don't drink the media kool-aid so quickly.

Pesce can be on a no.1 defensive pair on almost all teams (besides Carolina cus we have a ton of good defencemen). I got nothing against jokiharju but he is not who we need. Prospects and picks is not what we need either, its cup or bust for the next 3 years.

Pesce would be a 3 or 4 on most teams and will be a 4 on the sabres. You're getting a youngish replacement dman and 13oa in a deep draft for a player that, in this scenario, can't be resigned by the canes.

Honestly that trade was fine (I forgot it was 13th Overall lmfao) but the Edmonton trade is terrible to even think about

Did you pay no attention at the deadline this season?

Pesce is a top 4RD, under 30 with a 4M cap hit. He absolutely will return a 1st or equivalent if traded, with or without extension.

Without an extension, our gm walks away. I don't think you're wrong, just stating that our gm isn't buying on rentals.

he would come with an extension in this scenario. At the same time spock is right that he would pull this value at the trade deadline as well. Not that we would sell him at the deadline, unless our season tanked.
